The great thing about modern life is there's no need to be skilled or talented. All you need is AI and social media to promote yourself. If you join the European song festival the worst singer can win all you need is to have the media at your side or even better make the world pity you. Those days this song festival made singers or a band like Abba famous passed decennia ago. It's more like promoting a country, showing your face and letting the world know where to send the money to or move to.
A few days ago I watched old commercials on YouTube, Dutch commercials. Today I understand why I liked most of them back then (Heinz is an exception). I am still hoping to see the AEG commercial but haven't found it yet. Perhaps it's removed because the mom was stressed and fell down the stairs with a basket full of laundry.
In the 70s and 80s most commercials were a joy to watch, a lot of music, families singing because of a brand of bread and we all looked happier and slimmer. I remember how people sang while walking or bicycling, no one cared about being 3rd grade or not being a tenor, it was about ventilating the joy we felt.
Today all faces look trimmed and the joy has left the average man just like the need to sing. It feels kind of sad to me and I wonder what happened back in the 80s that changed commercials into shouting and violence minutes that made people leave to visit the toilet, make a call or make a cup of tea.
Shouting, loud, chaotic commercials without any joy, humour took over. No sound of music was heard and those watching gave up on singing and joy.
It's kind of sad we changed into people with less spirit and joy. I shared some videos with my children to have a peep into what 'vintage' life looked like back then.
Just like always we skip the song festival again it's not worth watching, a waste of our time.
