A quick Wednesday walk through Subotica town in Serbia

Hello everyone. Wednesday walk challenge by @tattoodjay came so quickly and in the meantime I walked a lot and I am happy to share my walk with you. I invite you to walk with me through Subotica town, a city in the far north of Serbia, in the province of Vojvodina.

I went with my husband on a trip to Hungary from Belgrade, but we took a break in Subotica and walked around the city.

The town was calm and quiet and you could only hear my husband talking on the phone. 😊 We seemed to be too noisy for the locals because they are completely different from us and are very slow and quiet. At least that was my impression.

On Freedom Square, there is a City hall that was evidently once a classy building.

The City hall houses the City administration, Historical archives, boutiques and banks. That was exactly the case in the past as well.

This building was built at the beginning of the 20th century and it is the symbol of this city.

In Subotica town there are many buildings built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the Hungarian Art Nouveau style. What I noticed is that many facades need renovation in order to protect these buildings in their authentic appearance and to prevent them from being demolished.

This red old tram, which is no longer used for transport but for other purposes and at the same time as an exhibit, fits perfectly into the architecture of this city.

While we were walking, we came across another symbol of the city, which is the Franciscan monastery and church of Saint Michael the Archangel.

This is a Catholic church, built in the 18th century on the foundations of a castle from the 14th century.

It was closed but I was curious so I looked through the glass door.

Subotica is a beautiful town with many sights and charming streets perfect for a stroll. Who knows, maybe you'll take a walk there one of the next Wednesdays, just like I did. 😊
