The old bags that have been in my cabinet for seven years and the reason why I still have them.

When I was younger, I admit that I was not the type of kid who liked to appreciate things. I learned to let go and be generous. Just like my toy Barbie dolls, a kiddy bag that has a print with a cartoon character, etc. that my godparent and our aunt always give as a gift during Christmas or my birthday celebration. I just easily gave it to my older sister when she wanted it, and then I didn't know that the price of those Barbie dolls and bags was expensive. But since I was 18 years old, I have learned to appreciate things that are old. I even asked my aunts' old clothes, such as polo shirts and pants, from my grandmother when she was cleaning out their cabinets. Because the vintage clothes they used to wear may look old, but for me, they are still good and can be worn to go out.

Apart from old clothes, I also have bags that I still keep to this day. There are various reasons why I kept it hidden until now. Even though my grandma asks me when she puts my clothes that she washes sometimes, "Why are those bags still in your cabinet even though you can't use them anymore?"

This started when my grandma decluttered old things in their old cabinet. I helped her clean it before. Then I saw these three bags that looked old. I asked my grandma who owns these bags, and she said that they were my mom's.

Let's start with this one. My grandma said that this bag was my mom's bag when I was still a baby. When we go out, this is what she is using, where she can put my extra clothes and other things that I need here. I don't know what happened to these stains, but to me, it looks like it was because it was washed with Clorox. Anyway, I still keep it, and though I can't use it anymore because it has been part of my life since I was born.

This leather shoulder bag is my mom's bag, and my aunt also used it first during her college time before she gave it to my mom when she was a maiden. According to my mom, this was her first expensive bag during her teenage years. This bag used to look so beautiful on her eyes and looked expensive, but she uses it often to the point that the leather almost looks wrinkled. The durability of this bag is because, even though a long time has passed, the inside still looks like new. It doesn't have a hole inside,

maybe because it's wrinkled, so my mom didn't use it anymore. I also agreed that this bag looks good, and my aunt has had a taste for bags before. I think this bag's wrinkled didn't bother me enough to keep it and try to see if I can clean it again so I can use it too. But I don't know what to do or what I should put in it to make it look like new again, so I still just keep it in my cabinet.

This shoulder/sling bag is not my mom's, but it was my sister's bag when she was in college. This bag was really worn already, to the point that the bag's strap and other sides are torn apart already. The zipper and inside still look good, but I think the problem with this bag is that the design has rust.

I don't think I can really use it anymore, but I still kept it in my cabinet because this has been my sister's bag since she was in her fourth year of high school until her second year of college. And this is the bag she often uses during her college days when she visits me here at home every weekend or when she doesn't have school. And the first time I saw this bag again, even right now, I remembered the time when she came back home here from her dorm and brought food or snacks for me from her allowance.

This sling bag was my mom's bag. She bought this bag while she was working abroad. She gave this bag to me when she came back home before my 18th birthday. I didn't like sling bags back then. But when my mom gave it to me, this was my first sling bag. But I didn't use it often before because the zipper was broken.

This bag looked still new. I can still fix this so I can still use it, but I'm too lazy to do that. I keep this bag because it was given to me by my mom, and I don't like to throw it away because this is one of the things she gave me when I was 18. I'm just sad to think that I didn't take care to open it then, so it got damaged. If I just went to the market right away to get it fixed, right? I would have used it again and again until now because it has so many pockets.

Even though these bags are old and not being used now, I still want to keep them because they have flashback memories of my mom's and sister's lives, and they are also related to me. Even when my grandmother tells me to throw it away to make space in my cabinet, I don't do it. Because half of my life was in my mom's things; it's like it's been part of me since I saw them 7 years ago.
