It's been a long time since the last time I was hunting, today I've been overcome by nostalgia and taking advantage of the time I have available, I'm going to the Layton Lake District to hunt with my dog Rasputin, who surely missed these adventures much more than I did.

Ha pasado mucho desde la última vez que estuve de cacería, hoy me ha invadido la nostalgia y aprovechando que tengo algo de tiempo disponible, voy al Distrito del Lago Layton a cazar junto a mi perro Rasputín, que de seguro extrañaba mucho más que yo estas aventuras.
The first thing I noticed upon returning to the reserve, is that I feel like a complete novice regarding the use of weapons and tools, I have taken a few minutes of practice to re-familiarize myself with each of them. I'm a bit undecided whether to do some mission or go free as the wind relying on my luck. I'll go free and see what I get along the way.
I'd like to meet an albino animal, I've never seen one, I've never gotten any gold trophies either so either achievement would make me proud.

Lo primero que he notado al regresar a la reserva, es que me siento como un completo novato con respecto al uso de las armas y herramientas, me he tomado algunos minutos de práctica para volver a familiarizarme con cada una de ellas. Estoy un poco indeciso si hacer alguna misión o ir libre como el viento confiando en mi suerte. Iré libre a ver que consigo en el camino.
Me gustaría encontrarme con un animal albino, nunca he visto alguno, tampoco he conseguido algún trofeo de oro así que cualquiera de los dos logros me llenarían de orgullo.
Looking at my map in detail, I have not fully explored this place and there are several areas that I have not conquered, for example, in Balmont there are four waiting places that I have not bought, and two viewpoints that I have not visited, I am going to them in this little adventure and on the way we will see what we get.
On my walk I could hear the call of a Roosevelt Wapiti, the sound is beautiful, I tried to locate it but in the search it detected me and ran away, I could not see it at any time.

Viendo con detalle mi mapa, no he explorado del todo este lugar y hay varias zonas que no he conquistado, por ejemplo, en Balmont hay cuatro lugares de espera que no he comprado, y dos miradores que no he visitado, voy a ellos en esta pequeña aventura y en el camino veremos que conseguimos.
En mi andar pude escuchar el llamado de un Wapiti de Roosevelt, el sonido es hermoso, intenté ubicarlo pero en la búsqueda me detectó y se fue huyendo, no pude verlo en ningún momento.
After several minutes of walking I was finally able to find the place to build a waiting area, it is well located because there is an open space and very close to the lake, ideal for intercepting some animals that go in search of water. The view is beautiful and relaxing.

Después de varios minutos de camino al fin pude encontrar el lugar para construir una zona de espera, esta bien ubicado porque hay un espacio abierto y muy cerca esta el lago, ideal para interceptar algunos animales que van en busca de agua. La vista es hermosa y relajante.
Having this point of interest ready, I marked on my map the next one, which is a little more to the southeast. On the way I could hear several animals but could not see any, until about 80 meters away I heard the warning call of some rabbits, wow, 80 meters is very close, so I lay down on the ground and studied my hunting strategy.
Rabbits have very good senses so I must be careful, if I do things right at least one rabbit I will take hunting. I check that my rifle has the right bullets for this type of prey and slowly approach where they are supposed to be. I keep hearing their warning calls but can't get a glimpse of them, until a couple of heads popped up on the horizon.
I stood up and took aim with my Virant 22RL Express rifle, adjusted the scope to 50 meters maximum and shot one of them in the neck, I didn't shoot at the body because I suspect I would hit the ground as they were on a slight incline in the terrain, seeing that the other rabbit didn't run away immediately I aimed and shot at it. Both were shot down, with them I got about 600$ and two silver trophies. I have to recoup the $2100 I just spent at the hunting stand.

Teniendo listo este punto de interés, marqué en mi mapa el siguiente, el cual esta un poco más al sureste. En el camino pude escuchar varios animales pero no pude ver ninguno, hasta que a unos 80 metros escuché el llamado de advertencia de unos conejos, wow, 80 metros es muy cerca, así que me tumbé al suelo y estudie mi estrategia de caza.
Los conejos tienen muy buenos sentidos así que debo ser cuidadoso, si hago las cosas bien por lo menos un conejo me llevaré a caza. Reviso que mi rifle tiene las balas correctas para este tipo de presas y me voy acercando lentamente a donde se supone deben estar. Sigo escuchando sus llamados de advertencia pero no logro verlos, hasta que un par de cabezas se asomaron en el horizonte.
Me levanté y apunté con mi rifle Virant 22RL Express, ajusté la mira a 50 metros máximo y disparé a uno de ellos al cuello, no disparé al cuerpo porque sospecho que le daría al suelo ya que se encontraban en una pequeña inclinación del terreno, al ver que el otro conejo no huyó inmediatamente le apunté y disparé. Ambos fueron abatidos, con ellos conseguí unos 600$ y dos trofeos de plata. Debo recuperar los 2100$ que acabo de gastar en el puesto de caza.
A male black-tailed deer appeared in my way, he had a good antlers, but he saw me and ran away quickly, after walking a few steps I could see a female of the same species, the truth I hesitated to kill him, but in view that I must spend money to make the stands, 2100$ each, I think I should kill any prey that appears in my way. So without much effort I targeted this female and she stayed in place, she felt no pain. The bad thing about this kind of prey is that they don't give trophies.

Un ciervo de cola negra macho se presentó en mi camino, tenía una buena cornamenta, pero me vio y salió huyendo rápidamente, luego de caminar unos pasos pude ver a una hembra de la misma especie, la verdad dude en matarle, pero en vista de que debo gastar dinero en hacer los puestos de espera, 2100$ cada uno, creo que debo matar cuanta presa se me aparezca en el camino. Así que sin mucho esfuerzo apunté a esta hembra y quedó en el sitio, no sintió dolor. Lo malo de este tipo de presas es que no dan trofeos.

Ahora voy por el siguiente puesto de espera el cual esta muy cerca de donde llegamos acá la primera vez. Esta por hacerse de noche así que me voy a apresurar, 5:41 pm y la vista de este lugar es hermosa.
After walking for a while, darkness set in and the footprints became harder and harder to see to the point that they could only be seen by turning on the flashlight. I wasn't so worried about that as I wasn't examining tracks, but was on my way to the next waiting spot.
I found a white-tailed deer resting spot, there were several females and one buck with decent antlers, so my target was the buck. From a distance I could see him calmly resting, then he got up and started to eat. I slowly approached him until I was about 30 yards away but I forgot to adjust my rifle scope, so my shot missed a vital organ. The deer started to run but I could tell I hit it. As I got closer I could see a large group of deer, there were more than 10 deer, mostly females and young. I shot several but couldn't bring down any of them.
I told my dog Rasputin to track the blood and we spent several minutes searching for the wounded buck, until we finally got the carcass. It turned out to be a 81Kg specimen with good antlers, I think it could easily be a silver trophy but as I missed a vital organ I got a Bronze trophy.

Después de caminar un rato, la oscuridad se hizo presente y cada vez las huellas son más difíciles de ver hasta el punto de que solo se pueden observar encendiendo la linterna. Yo no estaba tan preocupado por eso ya que no estaba examinando huellas, sino que iba camino al siguiente punto de espera.
Encontré un lugar de descanso de ciervos de cola blanca, habían varias hembras y un macho con una cornamenta decente, así que mi objetivo era el macho. Desde lejos pude verlo tranquilo descansando, luego se levantó y se puso a comer. Me fui acercando lentamente hasta estar a unos 30 metros de distancia pero se me olvidó regular la mira del rifle, por tal motivo mi disparo no acertó en un órgano vital. El ciervo empezó a correr pero pude notar que le di. Al acercarme pude ver a un conjunto grande de ciervos, eran más de 10 ciervos, la mayoría hembras y jóvenes. Le disparé a varios pero no pude derribar ninguno.
Le dije a mi perro Rasputin que rastreara la sangre y estuvimos varios minutos en búsqueda del macho herido, hasta que al fin pudimos conseguir el cadáver. Resultó un espécimen de 81Kg con una buena cornamenta, creo que fácilmente podría ser un trofeo de plata pero al no acertar en un órgano vital me han dado un trofeo de Bronce.

Well, I've been walking for many hours in this place, the night is advancing so I think I better go to sleep and in the day I continue with my work to explore and get all the points of interest of Balmont, I only have three points left to complete.

Bueno, ya llevo muchas horas andando en este lugar, la noche esta avanzando por lo cual creo que mejor voy a dormir y en el día sigo con mi labor de explorar y conseguir todos los puntos de interés de Balmont, ya solo me quedan tres puntos por completar.
