Very often we find ourselves stuck with things that we rarely use. Let it be the dumbbells, the calligraphy pen, the weight loss kit, or the treadmill we now use as a hanger. Impulse buying is real, just because some ad says 20% we buy stuff we don't need. That's how you end up with the CDs with the CD player. Damn!! That was such an old outdated example. Weid example. I'd better bring myself back to the topic before I wander off any further. Already have a nasty habit of distraction.
It's true, just because something is at a discounted price we consider buying that stuff. Even when we don't need it. The best real-life example would be me getting 750ml of some herbal shampoo because it was on an offer of buy 1 and get 1. Now this deal sounds awesome. Right? Because that is how you end up with your hair smelling like ginger garlic bread for 8 months. Einstein had a better hairstyle than me for those damn 8 months. And many of us use the reasoning as it is for future use. Well, if you do not need it now, there is a good chance that you won’t need it future. Other important things need your attention but you are busy picking the colour of the third pair of shoes that you will be getting with the buy 2 get 1 offer.
Before I go any further, I am not discouraging you from your shopping. Feel free. Hell, go on a shopping spree if it lights up your mood. It is your money. But I am not encouraging it either. These supermarkets are the worst offenders of them all. They tend to pair one good item with something that is not needed or expired or something that totally useless to you but you still end up buying it. Like 100 dog biscuits with Instant Noodles. This does not make sense, You don't have a dog and you promised that you’d eat healthy. Some weird offers like buy grease and get 50ml coconut oil I mean what the hell.
Here's what I am gonna do. I will ask several questions to myself whenever I go shopping.
- Are you going to die if you don't purchase it?
- Are you lying about going to die if you don’t purchase it?
- Are you purchasing because of some Insta reel?
- Are you 100% sure its not because of the Ad you saw of Instagram?
- Are you sure that you are not hoarding stuff?
- Is there no way around this?
- Is this item on the list that your wife gave for grocery shopping?
The outcome will be two things. I will become aware that I really need that stuff or I will just get annoyed with myself and quit. Either you end up saving some money or I will be happy with my shopping. Its a Win.
Note to Self:
Stop convincing yourself that You need that Dinosaur action Toy for your 3-year-old kid. He is not into dinosaurs, and he likes bikes and cars. NO DINOSAUR.
TLDR; Stop buying stuff you don't need just because it's on discount.
Hey Folk,
It is me inuke.
I still am blogging random stuff I know. I want to write stories but at present, this is all I can do. I am happy with this kind of content. I hope you are enjoying these random unrelated posts. I will try to get back to the storytelling soon. Till then you can expect such pointless posts.
Before I go, I am sure you all have similar stories of some purchases. Share your ridiculous waste of money in the comment section.
Ciao.
Ah! One more thing I am thankful to IndiaUnited and BeAwesome community for their love and support. Not everyone can put up with this crazy. 🤣
