Apenas Ivonne publicó que estaba en Venezuela le escribí emocionada para vernos. No quise presionarla porque entiendo lo valioso que es el tiempo para quien viene de visita a su país: mucha familia que visitar, muchos amigos por ver, muchos planes por hacer. Así que la invité a hacer algo que me encanta: subir el cerro. Sé que ella, al igual que yo, ama la naturaleza así que no pude haber elegido un mejor plan!
As soon as Ivonne posted that she was in Venezuela I texted her excited to see her. I didn't want to pressure her because I understand how valuable time is for those who come to visit their country: lots of family to visit, lots of friends to see, lots of plans to make. So I invited her to do something I love: climb the hill. I know that she, like me, loves nature so I couldn't have chosen a better plan!
Después de tratar de elegir el día y la hora, finalmente lo acordamos. El viernes a las 6:15am pasaría por ella. Nuestra intención era ver el amanecer de camino a la cima del cerro, pero el sol se adelantó y apenas empezamos a subir ya estaban aclarándose los arreboles, cosa que igual disfrutamos.
After trying to choose a day and time, we finally agreed. Friday morning at 6:15 I would drive by. Our intention was to watch the sunrise on the way to the top of the hill, but the sun came up early and as soon as we started to climb it was already clearing the glades, which we still enjoyed.
Paso a paso fuimos avanzando y conversando. Ambas estamos retomando el ejercicio así que nuestra cadencia suave, pero constante nos permitió actualizarnos en una gran variedad de temas, pues teníamos muchísimos años sin vernos.
Step by step we moved forward and talked. We're both taking up the exercise again, so our smooth but constant cadence allowed us to update each other on a wide variety of topics, as we hadn't seen each other for many years.
Fue una conversación muy nutrida, muy agradable. Tomamos fotos en la mínima oportunidad que encontrábamos. El clima estaba fresco, pero conforme fue avanzando la mañana los rayos del sol se hicieron mas intensos, teníamos poca agua así que racionamos lo mejor posible este recurso. En el camino Ivonne sacó un chocolate para reponer energía, comimos un poco y continuamos la subida.
It was a very nurturing conversation, very pleasant. We took pictures at the slightest opportunity we could find. The weather was cool, but as the morning progressed the sun's rays became more intense, we had little water so we rationed this resource as best we could. On the way Ivonne took out a chocolate to replenish energy, we ate a little and continued the climb.
Después de 1:30h de senderismo llegamos al Container, el punto de llegada para quienes deciden hacer esa ruta como forma de ejercicio. En las fotos pueden apreciar que el recorrido de montaña continúa y, quien lo desee, puede seguir la ruta.
After 1:30h of hiking we arrive at the Container, the arrival point for those who decide to do this route as a form of exercise. In the photos you can see that the mountain trail continues and, if you wish, you can follow the route.
Una vez estando allí descansamos. Contemplamos la ciudad, que se veía hermosa desde ese punto y aproveché de tomarle fotos a mi amiga. No sabía cuándo regresaría así que quería que tuviera un lindo recuerdo de su estadía en casa. Ella, igualmente, me tomó fotos y me regaló un palo santo, también un collar y pulsera hechos por ella misma. A eso se dedica, es artesana y tattoo artist, hace hermosos artículos de joyería inspirados en la naturaleza, al igual que los dibujos que tatúa.
Once we were there we rested. We contemplated the city, which looked beautiful from that point and I took the opportunity to take pictures of my friend. I don't know when she would be back so I wanted her to have a nice souvenir of her stay at home. She also took pictures and gave me a palo santo as a gift, as well as a necklace and bracelet made by herself. That's what she does, she is an artisan and tattoo artist, she makes beautiful jewelry items inspired by nature, as well as the drawings she tattoos.
Agradecí muchísimo el regalo y el compartir. Ambas estábamos felices por haber subido el cerro después de mucho tiempo y por lo recargadas que nos sentíamos. En nuestro camino de regreso decidimos hacer una parada en el río para mojarnos los pies, el agua estaba helada pero divina. Al poco rato nos fuimos, llegó mucha gente y preferimos continuar con nuestro descenso. Yo debía ir a trabajar y si tardábamos más se me haría tarde.
I was very grateful for the gift and the sharing. We were both happy for having climbed the hill after a long time and for how recharged we felt. On our way back we decided to stop at the river to get our feet wet, the water was freezing cold but divine. Soon after we left, a lot of people arrived and we preferred to continue our descent. I had to go to work and if we took any longer I would be late.
Decidimos cerrar la mañana como merecíamos: comiéndonos un buen desayuno! Fuimos por un par de empanaditas. Ella pidió de pabellón, una delicia rellena de carne mechadada, caraotas negras, plátano frito y queso blanco —plato típico venezolano, para quienes no lo conocen—. Yo pedí una de cazón (pescado) igualmente divina. Las acompañamos con unas buenas salsas y, por supuesto, una malta!
We decided to close the morning as we deserved: eating a good breakfast! We went for a couple of empanaditas. She ordered pabellon, a delicacy filled with shredded meat, black beans, fried plantain and white cheese —a typical Venezuelan dish, for those who don't know it—. I ordered an equally divine cazón (fish). We accompanied them with some good sauces and, of course, a malt!
Al final el tiempo estuvo a mi favor, pude subir el cerro por completo, desayunar con calma y llegar al trabajo a la hora acordada. Fue una maravillosa forma de darle inicio al fin de semana. Me despedí de Ivonne y quedamos en contacto para próximas aventuras que publicaré pronto...
In the end the clock was in my side, I was able to climb the whole hill, have a leisurely breakfast and get to work at the agreed time. It was a wonderful way to start the weekend. I said goodbye to Ivonne and we stayed in touch for the next adventures that I will publish soon...
