¡Un saludo a todos los integrantes de ésta comunidad! En cuanto vi la imagen aportada para el concurso de ésta semana, se me hizo agua a la boca jaja siendo un snack bastante deleitable.
Casualmente, tengo días con antojo de tostones. Sé que podría ir hasta el mercado que queda a una cuadra del edificio y comprar plátanos verdes y freír la cantidad que me diera la gana de tostones, pero quisiera ahorrarme el esfuerzo jaja. Sin mencionar que, no sería lo mismo. El antojo que tengo de tostones, son aquellos que vendían en todos lados, en la ciudad en la que vivía hace unos meses atrás.
En Barquisimeto (Venezuela), los vendedores de tostones se encuentran por doquier. Eso era un alivio si andabas con deseos de comer algo sencillo para matar la ansiedad y lo mejor, es que eran bastante económicos. Por eso mismo, era normal conseguir aquellos tostones en bolsas transparentes, en las tiendas, bodegas, casas y hasta siendo vendidos por un señor en una esquina.
Hay quienes los venden preparados, con salsas diversas, con limón y hasta con orégano. A mí, me gustan sólo con sal, aunque a veces me aventuraba a comerlos con aquellas adiciones. Eso me recuerda que, antes de mudarnos, mi hermana menor y yo estuvimos un par de semanas comprando unos tostones saborizados, para probarlos. Luego de comer los tostones con sabor a queso, perejil, cebolla, ajo y tocineta, quedamos adictas al sabor de tocineta.
Comprar estos tostones, sin embargo, para mí significaba una labor de selección. Si no eras lo suficientemente perspicaz, podías terminar comprando unos tostones muy duros o demasiado amarillos y sin sabor. A mí, me gustaba seleccionar los que tenían un color dorado casi medio, lo que me indicaba que su textura, sería crocante pero sin arriesgarte de partirte un diente y lo mejor, tenían un toque dulzón.
Ahora que vivo en la ciudad de Caracas, he visto ese tipo de tostón artesanal, pero muy pocas veces. Cada vez que tengo antojo de comerlos, nunca encuentro un vendedor o luego de observarlos, dudo en si comprarlos por su aspecto. La otra opción que tengo, es comprar esos tostones hechos en fábrica, a un precio exorbitante y con más aire en el paquete que el producto jaja pero bueno, a lo mejor, en mi próximo viaje de visita a la ciudad de Barquisimeto, me termine comprando un tostón, por los viejos tiempos.

Greetings to all the members of this community! As soon as I saw the image contributed for this week's contest, my mouth watered haha being a quite delicious snack.
Coincidentally, I crave tostones for days. I know that I could go to the market that is a block from the building and buy green plantains and fry as much tostones as I wanted, but I would like to save myself the effort haha. Not to mention, it wouldn't be the same. The craving I have for tostones are those that were sold everywhere, in the city where I lived a few months ago.
In Barquisimeto (Venezuela), tostone sellers are everywhere. That was a relief if you wanted to eat something simple to kill anxiety and the best thing is that they were quite affordable. For this reason, it was normal to get those tostones in transparent bags, in stores, warehouses, houses and even being sold by a man on a corner.
There are those who sell them prepared, with various sauces, with lemon and even oregano. I like them only with salt, although sometimes I ventured to eat them with those additions. That reminds me that, before moving, my younger sister and I spent a couple of weeks buying some flavored tostones, to try them. After eating the tostones flavored with cheese, parsley, onion, garlic and bacon, we were addicted to the taste of bacon.
Buying these tostones, however, for me meant a task of selection. If you weren't discerning enough, you could end up buying tostones that were too hard or too yellow and tasteless. For me, I liked to select those that had an almost medium golden color, which told me that their texture would be crunchy but without risking breaking a tooth and, best of all, they had a sweet touch.
Now that I live in the city of Caracas, I have seen that type of artisanal toston, but very rarely. Every time I crave them, I never find a seller or after looking at them, I hesitate to buy them because of their appearance. The other option I have is to buy those factory-made tostones, at an exorbitant price and with more air in the package than the product haha but hey, maybe, on my next trip to visit the city of Barquisimeto, I will end up buying a totón, for old times' sake.
