Battle Mages secrets: Counterspell so no spell casters!

Hello everyone, This is @cantfoldaces participating in the Weekly Battle Mage Secrets Challenge, in the best #play2earn game out there!! #Splinterlands!!

Another week, another new challenge and another cycle of a new splinterlands season that usually starts very tough! It startes really hard to maintain a 50/50 win rate earlier the season since many players are fighting for the top spot but it gets easier that time goes on. So for today's battle challenge we gonna share a cool low mana battle:

    Counterspell

    • All units receive the magic reflect ability at the start of the battle.
    • Magic damage attackers receive damage back, Damage returned is equal to the damage of the attacker divided by 2, rounded up.

The rules are simple, this kind of Ruleset puts magic damage casters into a disadvantage with the exception of monsters with the innate Void Ability like Djinn Oshannus & Void Dragon.

On the other side, since we'll tend to focus more on Melee and Ranged, it gives a bigger advantage to Armor:

    • Protect is OP
    • Repair becomes even more relevant since it'll hinder both Ranged and Melee attacks

Without forgetting about surprising the opponent with an immortalis Summoner and going hard on Magic Damage that will be mostly protected by the Void Ability!

Without Further ado, let's get started with the battle:

    • Low Mana Cap 16 Mana
    • Fire, Life, Dragon Available
    • Counterspell + Unprotected Rulesets

In this case I have decided with a little yet strong team for this battle

    Summoner

    Ability: -1 Ranged + -1 Speed
A great Summoner that offers a lot of versatility especially with limited Elements available. First, it gives a Speed advantage by nerfing the enemy speed and secondly, since we are expecting a higher pick rate of ranged monsters with the life element available, nerfing the ranged damage comes in handy!

    Tank Position

    Ability: Enrage

A great tank in term of hit points but most importantly in term of DAMAGE. Considering his triggered enrage that would bump up his Melee Damage to 8! & with the Unprotected Ruleset => his attack will deal serious damage as it hits directly through enemy's HP if the opponent doesn't have shield that would offset some of its insane damage!
Waiting for a few bcx to level it up to level 5 to unlock another oppresive ability: Retaliate

    2nd Poisition

    Ability: Opportunity + Snare

I had a couple of options for the 3 Mana left for this battle and I went for this monster because of a couple of reasons:

    • The opportunity ability that can target the weakest enemy monster especially in low mana battles
    • Snare since some of the life Element monsters have the Flying ability!

    Pre Round 1

The enemy Team went for a somehow similar team to mine but with a weaker frontliner that it usually used for its Void Armor Forte plus a double opportunity monsters, thinking that I would go for a multitude of low health monsters.

    Round 1

    • Starting up with a hit from Celestial Harpy on my Welp Herder
    • My Drybone Barbarian got enraged from the enemy tank and returned back the attack 10-fold eliminating it from the get go!
    • Then my Whelp herder eliminated the enemy Fiend

    Round 2

    • Celestial Harpy let my Welp Herder with only one Health
    • In the meantime, Drybone Barbarian One-Shot enemy Whelp Herder leaving the Celestial Harpy on the frontline!
    • Adding salt to injury, Welp Herder did snare the Harpy to make the chances of evading the next deadly attack very slim!

    Round 3

It didn't take long for Drybone to deliver the 3rd Kill on the beggining of the 3rd Round to take down the Harpy for the 3rd Kill and clinch the Victory for +17 Trophies + 0.683 SPS

    Post Battle Commentary

    • With the limited Elements available, I'm happy with the team composition that I've choose for this battle and it would've been better if I had my Drybone Barbarian at level 5 as mentionned above
    • One comp in particular that could be very annoying is the combo Avina the wolf + Inevitable that makes it an inbeatable wall!
