Larry begins his look at today in history from the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1970, On this day in 1970, an anti-Vietnam War demonstration at Kent State University turned tragic when the Ohio National Guard shot four unarmed students and injured nine others, further shifting public sentiment against the conflict.
From the USA, Larry goes to England.
He finds out that on this day in 2000, Ken Livingstone, a British politician, was elected mayor of London, marking the first time British people have directly elected a candidate to an executive office at any level of government.
From England, Larry goes to the world of the Grammies. He finds out that on this day in 1959, the first Grammy Awards were given out, with the Kingston Trio, Ella Fitzgerald, and Frank Sinatra among the winners.
From the world of Grammy awards, Larry goes to Italy. He finds out that on this day in 1814, Napoleon landed at the island of Elba to serve the first of two exiles.
From Italy, Larry goes to Northern Ireland. He finds out that on this day in 1989, Rory McIlroy is a Northern Irish professional golfer whose meteoric rise made headlines in the sport was born in Holywood, Northern Ireland. By the age of 23, he had won two of golf's four major tournaments, the U.S. Open in 2011 and the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) Championship in 2012, and had moved to the top of the global rankings.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from Egypt. He finds out that on this day in1928, Hosni Mubarak was an Egyptian military commander and politician who served as Egypt's President from October 1981 to February 2011, when popular protests compelled him to stand down, was born in Al-Minūfiyyah governorate, Egypt
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
