Don't take those Baggages into the New Year

Right now, we are just hours away from the New Year, and I'm pretty sure most of us are caught up with exciting pre-New Year fuss. You know what is funny: almost everyone does this ritualistic cleaning at the end of the year when old things were thrown out, junk to be discarded, and new room for a new start is being made.

But here is a question: in our zeal to clean up our homes, shouldn't we also do some cleaning where it matters most? I'm talking about our hearts—probably the most cluttered space we have. Take a moment and take one last look back at 2024. What good do you want to pass on? What luggage could you leave behind?

Think about it-there is nothing worse than bringing over those awful moments from last year into your new beginning. You heard the saying, "The bed you make is your bed." Yeah, that does sound harsh, but hey, when it comes to life, that's just how things go.

Now, I am not going to get into all that "your past doesn't define your future" thing-that is up to you to decide. But let's talk about regret for a moment. Here's something interesting: regret isn't just a feeling—it's actually a choice. You have to decide whether to hold on to those bad feelings or let them go. Everything is in your hands.

In this last few hours of 2024, take stock. Perhaps you must break away from the chains that make you emotional-like finding someone you loved so much, having an affair with another guy or girl, putting up with those people who went away as you weren't "fit for their cycle," getting over the heartbreak of some person whom you cared about so much.

So, what do we do with all this emotional baggage? Why not turn it into something positive instead of allowing them to ruin your new year? You can do it this way:
First, grab a pencil and paper. Write everything down – all the bad memories, everything that makes you feel terrible, every bit of anger and sadness. Don't skip the little things - everything matters.

Then play detective with your own life. Look for patterns in what brings you down. Maybe it's certain people, habits or situations that keep causing these negative feelings.

Next, take a good look at your luggage and really understand what each piece means. You may start to see common themes – feeling not good enough, feeling unloved, feeling alone. For example, if you still feel "persecuted," ask yourself what that really means. Is it about love? Your career? Your past? The meaning of each is different.

After identifying these patterns, it's time to work on improving things. Take those past experiences and try to find their silver lining. Draw lessons from what went wrong in the view of doing better next time, and well, if one slips up, not being too hard on oneself means getting back on track whenever possible.

And finally, the big one-to let go and forgive. Write down all that baggage one last time, but this time you're saying goodbye to it. Sure, letting go can hurt—especially if you're forgiving someone who might hurt you again. But carry that pain into the new year? That just hurts you twice.

Some baggage you can just throw away – like past relationships or jobs that no longer serve you. But any bags? In fact, they are worth keeping - they are your life lessons, things that will make you stronger. Even difficult experiences—like losing someone you love or dealing with depression—teach you something valuable.

As we end this year, remember: don't carry your bad luck, heartache, stress, negative habits, tears, money worries, or loneliness into the new year. Instead, take everything—good and bad—and turn it into fuel for something positive. Do that and you're setting yourself up for an amazing year ahead.

That's the secret to a fresh start, not pretending the past didn't happen, but choosing what parts of it will come with you into your future.
