Introducing... The Wonderfully Accessible Realm of Australian Government Grants!
Not just for the cloistered upper crust of academia or the ambivalent ministerial classes inside Canberra!
The grants listed below are funded by numerous Australian Federal Government Departments and aimed towards all Australians!
We see a truly innovative Whole-of-Australians approach used for engagement of a nationwide audience, and I must give kudos to our Federal and Commonwealth governments for employing such an unique approach. In True Blue Aussie Battler spirit, the governments inspired each Aussie to sing "I still call Australia Home" from the heart.
It dawned on us that for once in our collective lives, Australia was living up to it's reputation as a country where everyone can try "having a fair-go" and give it a good crack at making the most of opportunities Down Under. Absolutely The Lucky Country and I wouldn't be caught living anywhere else.
In this article, I list dozens of grants the Australian Government's offered to Australians. Some of these grants are open and accepting applications, and for those which interested me, I could see myself as a potential applicant. Several other grants raised an eyebrow when I read them.
The publication and closing dates for these grants also shared a pattern. I noticed that anyone intending to submit a grant application would generally have no longer than a month in which to do so. Submitting a federal grant application within a month's time window seems counterproductive to me. In fact, it makes me wonder if a cohort of Federal government hanger's-on (NGO, State & Local government departments, Private, Commercial and Industrial enterprises) have less likelihood of their grant application process being impacted by a restrictive time-window. Forewarned is forearmed perhaps..
But what about "having a fair go" for the rest of us? This is our country after all. And it's funded by our blood, sweat and tears, and we want to contribute to the continued greatness by having a stake in its governance, its academic excellence, its scientific innovation and its cultural expression. We have a stake in wanting to be proud of this nation because we want to be proud of our contribution towards its success, for our children and our grandchildren, and unborn generations beyond that!
Indigenous & Remote Communities
The first grant mentioned in this article closes on Tuesday, 5th November 2024 and is seeking applications to assist the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) stated aims of increasing vaccination uptake amongst indigenous Australians. There's $31,822,000.00 earmarked for funding towards this cause.
The second grant aims to fund Australia's ongoing "National Justice Reinvestment Program" which intends to facilitate indigenous communities and their organizations in reducing contact with the criminal justice system. I support this program because the endemic lawlessness & systematic abuse of indigenous people remains a persistent problem. I'm familiar with how dire the problems are due to over a decade's experience of managing insurance claims arising out of Aboriginal Corporations, remote communities and incessant mismanagement by government & other stakeholders.
Over the course of a decade, I witnessed a seemingly perpetual state of indigenous disadvantage which I put down to deep-seated abuse, a loss of cultural roots and any well-intentioned interventions usually arriving at remote locations with ulterior motives of corruption. Over a decade I came to expect that this is how things operated in the outback: corrupt as fuck, broken as shit. Yet there's a tiny handful of success stories I'm aware of and perhaps this second grant could help with more than just the handful of examples I currently know of.
The below video explains what the National Justice Reinvestment Program is and summarizes the outcomes sought for as a result of funding this National Justice Reinvestment Program - Round 3. Grant applications for funding close 13th January 2025.
