I've realized that most of my Wednesday Walks tend to be "Wednesday Getaways" 😅 and this story is a clear example of that. This walk dressed as a penguin was a couple of months ago while I was in Ubeda, Spain, which ended up being one of my favorite places in the world.
Me he dado cuenta que la mayoría de mis Paseos de los Miércoles suelen ser "Escapadas de los Miércoles" 😅 y esta historia es un claro ejemplo de ello. Esta caminata vestido de pingüino fue hace un par de meses, mientras me encontraba en Úbeda, España, el cual terminó siendo uno de mis lugares favoritos en el mundo.
On a concert tour I usually go dressed in my tails for the rehearsal and sound check, because in my group we are many people and you never know if there will be enough space to change quietly. In fact that day was a big walk, we had to walk from the hotel to the theater where we would sing. We rehearsed early, at 5 pm, but the concert would be at 7:45 pm, so while most of us were fighting for a space in the dressing rooms, I went out to walk around the place and discovered a wonderful patio, I don't know if we could go in there or not, but there was so much silence and peace that I stayed until the time of the show.
En una gira de conciertos suelo irme vestido con mi frac para el ensayo y prueba de sonido, ya que en mi agrupación somos muchas personas y nunca se sabe si habrá espacio suficiente para cambiarse tranquilo. De hecho ese día fue un gran paseo, tuvimos que caminar desde el hotel hasta el teatro donde cantaríamos. Ensayamos temprano, a las 17 horas, pero el concierto sería a las 19:45, así que mientras la gran mayoría luchaba por un espacio en los camerinos, yo salí a recorrer el lugar y descubrí un patio maravilloso, no sé si podíamos entrar ahí o no, pero había tanto silencio y tanta paz que me quedé hasta la hora de la función.
These pictures are from the back of the Auditorio Hospital Santiago de Úbeda, belonging to that cultural center. I would have liked to get away and walk along with my girl, but the girls dress does not cover so much with our tails, and yes, it was very cold, in fact that was the night Jhoxiris started to get sick in Spain, and it was only the third city we were getting to know 😵💫 The place was very well lit with yellow lamps, which provided a dreamy experience for the few of us who approached the courtyard. I wandered away from the others and I think it was my first solo moment of exploration and reflection, but I made sure to take several pictures.
Estas fotografías son de la parte posterior del Auditorio Hospital Santiago de Úbeda, perteneciente a ese centro cultural. Me habría gustado escaparme y caminar junto a mi chica, pero el vestido de las chicas no cubre tanto con nuestro frac, y sí, hacía mucho frío, de hecho esa fue la noche en que Jhoxiris comenzó a enfermar en España, y era solo la tercera ciudad que estábamos conociendo 😵💫 El lugar estaba muy iluminado con lámparas amarillas, lo cual nos brindaba una experiencia de ensueño a los pocos que nos acercamos al patio. Me alejé de los demás y creo que fue mi primer momento de exploración y reflexión en solitario, eso sí, me aseguré de tomar varias fotografías.
In general, Úbeda offered us Renaissance airs. Visiting the city was like stopping in time next to these ancient buildings. It was well cared for, there were many tourists, it was very clean and you could see that some structures were still being restored. I love that people take care of their heritage, for me it was an honor and a gift from God to have known this place, and I remember that our first concert of great impact was here, the city and the public were a perfect combination and I think I felt particularly special for having been allowed to walk this time alone and in total silence.
En general, Úbeda nos brindó aires renacentistas. Visitar la ciudad era como detenerse en el tiempo junto a estas antiguas edificaciones. Estaba bien cuidada, había muchos turistas, estaba muy limpia y se podía apreciar que seguían acomodando algunas estructuras. Amo que los pueblos cuiden su patrimonio, para mí fue un honor y un regalo de Dios haber conocido este lugar, y recuerdo que nuestro primer concierto de gran impacto fue aquí, la ciudad y el público fueron una combinación perfecta y creo que yo me sentí particularmente especial por haberme permitido caminar este rato en solitario y en el silencio total.
I don't even know how I got here. I saw some stairs that led to a very high place when I was looking for the bathroom, I think it was curiosity that made me go up there. I was very surprised to see such a large place, but at the same time so high above the rest of the building, I think that's why it was so quiet. I would have liked to see it during the day, but these colors achieved by the light at night gave it a wonderful atmosphere, in fact in other conditions perhaps I would have been afraid to walk alone here, but it was not like that, my soul was at peace and I was ecstatic with the whole city in particular.
Ni siquiera sé explicar cómo llegue hasta aquí. Vi unas escaleras que llevaban hasta un lugar muy alto cuando buscaba el baño, creo que fue la curiosidad la que me hizo subir hasta allá. Me sorprendió mucho ver un lugar tan amplio, pero a la vez tan alto respecto al resto de la edificación, creo que por eso había tanto silencio. Me habría gustado verlo de día, pero estos colores que logra la luz en la noche le dio una atmósfera maravillosa, de hecho en otras condiciones quizás me habría dado miedo caminar solo por acá, pero no fue así, mi alma estaba en paz y estaba extasiado con toda la ciudad en particular.
I walked a lot that day, as we arrived in Úbeda at noon and had to leave for Granada first thing in the morning. I am sure I must have visited almost half of the city, and I did it alone, although I found my companions scattered everywhere. The real challenge of these walks was to go with my concert shoes through these ancient streets with stone floors, but I have no regrets, I could do it all over again ❤️
Caminé mucho ese día, ya que llegamos a Úbeda al medio día y teníamos que partir a Granada a primera hora de la mañana. Estoy seguro que debo haber visitado casi la mitad de la ciudad, y lo hice solo, aunque me encontraba a mis compañeros esparcidos por todas partes. El verdadero reto de estas caminatas fue ir con mis zapatos de conciertos por estas calles antiguas con pisos de piedras, pero no me arrepiento, podría volver a hacerlo una vez más ❤️
