A Ruby Red Affair!

I loved the tea even before I knew it to be nutritious and packed with numerous health benefits. I fell in love, first with the vibrant colour, Ruby red, and then the refreshing taste whenever the weather decides to throw off some heat, it became a go-to beverage for quenching my thirst and filling up my stomach, it has come to mean so much more than that! . A Truly indigenous Nigerian tea loaded and overfilled with goodness, or is it also enjoyed in some other countries? Hahaha, let me know in the comment section.

A simple tea made from dried Roselle leaves or Zobo leaves, as it is popularly called by the Hausa-speaking people of the Northern part of Nigeria. The name 'Zobo' is given to the calyce of dried hibiscus leaves, which is used to prepare the drink. It has a sour taste, so it is also known as sour tea, with its flavour similar to that of cranberry juice, and can be enjoyed either hot or cold. When cold or iced, the drink can satiate my thirst very effectively, especially when taken with some snacks. I don't take soft, carbonated drinks because I have taken Zobo drink as an alternative to those artificially made commercial drinks sold in the market.

I love this Hibiscus tea because amongst one of its benefits is the ability to cool the body.
It is a low calorie drink that I always love to take plain most times, although I could also add some citrus fruits, pineapple, or honey. I remember being into all kinds of tea in my younger days but as age crept in, I became more conscious of what went in and I would say that Zobo drink has been a most wonderful discovery for me, because it is firstly a herbal and natural drink, and then it's very simple to make. It is made by steeping the dry leaves in boiling water, so easy.

Rosalle are not flowers nor fruits but calyces. It is the calyx, the red, fleshy covering enclosing the pods, and is loaded with high content multivitamins but devoid of caffeine. There are so many other properties which qualifies it as a health-packed and nutritious Super-tea.

Consuming Zobo tea or drink can lower the blood pressure in pre-hypertensive and mildly hypertensive adults.

    It can lower cholesterol.

It is an antioxidant. Antioxidants help protect the body from diseases because they neutralize the free radicals present in body tissues and cells.

It contains anti-cancer properties and may slow down the growth of cancerous cells.

It is an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent.

It may act as an antidepressant agent.

It may promote weight loss because it reduces lipid accumulation in the tissues.

It is used as a blood tonic.

    maintaining good overall health.

It is not to be taken by pregnant women or anyone planning for pregnancy because it can stimulate menstrual cycle.

When I need my nerves to be relaxed, when I feel guilty about some foods that I have ingested and I need a cleanser for my system, I always indulge in a delicious Ruby Red affair with Zobo tea.

Have you ever drank this amazing Zobo tea when very cold or iced? If not, you have just got to try it out, you would definitely love it.
