MUSIC AND CULTURAL IDENTITY
The cultural narrative of a people will be incomplete if their music is exempted, it is part of that which tells who they really are. It is their identity. To discard a people's music is to discard their story, it is to discard their identity. A people's story are embedded in their music, these music can become a means through which we preserve traditional heritages.
As part of their identity, a people's value can sometimes be hidden in their music. Singing these music often will continuously reaffirm the people's value in the minds of everyone who sing it. It could as a matter of fact be said that a people's music is like the reflection of their value, norm, culture and even politics. In some instances, it is even the case that a people's historical event or cultural movement is specifically narrated in a music of theirs.
MUSIC AND COMMUNAL UNITY
Beyond the fact that a people's history is embedded in their music, music can be that which holds a people together. In some occasions, their are music that serves as the core identity of a people. In such music, the people are united in their singing. A typical example of such music is the national anthem of a state; beyond being the people's history and identity, these music holds them together. Apart from large communities, smaller movements and organisation can also have music of this nature. A music in which they are held together.
CULTURAL COLLABORATION IN MUSIC
The contemporary time completely reflects this very value of music. Music have a way promoting cultural collaboration. Given how much the human person loves music, it is absolutely normal for him to listen to which ever music he considers good. Every type of music that there is is traceable to a culture, it is first the music of a particular people. With the effect of music in this contemporary time, it is absolutely normal for people to fancy multiple genre of music regardless their origin. Different culture are as a matter of fact interchanged regardlessly. Come to think of it, music could be regarded as the one language that everyone understands. The best way to communicate another's culture to another is to put it in music. Music is no enemy of anyone.
CONCLUSION
Being a Nigerian, I can literally identify the culture of most Nigerian tribe in their music. It is like an identity of theirs and that is what I am talking about. Culture and music are in fact enshrined. Thus, one cannot speak of a music without reference to a particular culture or of a culture without reference to their music. Every music is simply traceable to a culture and to a people.
