Technology will continue advancing, shaping the world and human interactions with the systems and operations of things. Virtually every sector of human endeavours are affected by this change/shift. It's a certain fact that the present state of things with regards to development and advancements isn't the same some time back. This is because technology is constantly working; shaping and reshaping the way things work.
You could see all that as some sort of technological developments and advancements, and rightly so. When this seems to amaze humanity, it hits more with the influx of technology into the medicinal and healthcare sector. Technology has gone to affect medicine and the treatment of diseases. Instruments, tools, devices have come to improve as a result of this advancement. Medicinal procedures and formulation have become highly influenced by this technological development.
Seeing technology making more waves in the health sector, bringing new innovations and growth to it, I can only consider that there will be more coming along the way. One aspect that technology has really revolutionised the health sector is the now remote consultation and health monitoring. A system also otherwise known as telemedicine. This new system is already making its waves in the sector and gaining acceptance. But why?
Telemedicine is a modern system of healthcare delivery and services involving the offering of health services; consultation, monitoring, administration, without the physical presence of the health personnel. This we can say has been embraced to a large extent due to its ability to cut cost and some expenses. Canceling out the need to travel distances or even just leave the house can be quite appealing.
Talk of the ability to offer almost immediate response to health concerns and emergencies is another thing. In cases where traveling down can be an issue or impossible, this is of a great benefit. Remember that movie; "3 Idiots?" I think it perfectly explains the situation here. I consider this will go on to also encourage patient-doctor consultation. The ease and comfort will cause many to want to involve a health professional.
As much as this will bring some level of ease and comfortability, I consider it can create nonchalance and laxity as well. In cases where the availability of a professional might not be feasible, many could want to take up self consultation. If the doctor won't be present to do it, why can't they? In the cases of connection issues; since this is virtual, what will happen in emergencies? How will the patient cope since they've been accustomed to such a system and are solely relying on it? I count these as some issues that might face such an advancement.
The potential of technology to shape and reshape the landscape of healthcare will be a continuous one. I feel this will be a hard thing and process at the beginning; many might not accept it and involve with it easily. However, with time it will be embraced as a working system. I still find that even with such an acceptability, many will remain faithful to the old system still, and it won't become a total eradicated system.
This is my entry for the Healthy Bees weekly prompt, week 10.
