2023 1oz Silver Gibraltar War Elephant

in voilk •  3 months ago

The Gibraltar War Elephant is one of those pieces that is minted by Scottsdale Mint. Gibraltar puts out some great coin designs, and Scottsdale Mint really brings them to life and takes them to the next level! This piece is no exception!

    Obverse

I think we should vote that you can't call the side of the coin with the coat of arms, figurehead, monarch, politician, etc., the obverse. It's the last attractive part of the coin. Gibraltar is one of the exceptions to this, because their coat of arms features a lion and a unicorn, but not all other coat of arms designs are as nicely designed.

    Reverse

The reverse design is where the beauty is with this coin. I am VERY impressed by the level of detail they put into the wrinkles and folds in the elephant's skin! The action pose is a huge plus in my opinion, as it adds excitement to the coin. Even the background has a nice subtle radial line pattern to keep it from being flat and plain.

    Specifications
    Purity: .999
    Weight: 1 Troy ounce
    Mintage: 15,000 (Source)

Gibraltar and Scottsdale Mint did a fantastic job with this! I paid $27, which I think is a steal for such a detailed coin! As of posting this, silver is up to $27.94, so I already made a profit if I sold it for melt. I doubt I'll sell this, and it'll likely go in my limited mintage stack to pass on to my sons. If you see one of these for sale, I highly recommend getting one!
