Some years back, women couldn't come out to say they wanted to hold any position in government parastatals, nor could they boldly say they were independent. This was due to the mentalities of the people as of then and the laid down rules that a female child is not meant to be educated because she will end up getting married. Female children are referred to as slaves, and this lingers on for a long period before civilization sets in. This mentality was common in Africa before some set of women who were educated decided to change people's views about a female child.
This was when the era of gender equality began. The inception of this era was a thug of war as people, especially men, see it as a competition that should not be allowed. The idea of a female child being a slave was still engraved deeply in their minds. Some parents were also contributing to the obstruction of this new era by not sending their female children to school. In my country, it is strongly believed that a male child should be the survivor and provider of the family. A female child is to collect or be at the mercy of the male child but fortunately, a new era was launched where measures were taken to educate female children and make them independent.
Those women who fought for the freedom of female children, giving them the same rights as male children, did quite an impressive job, which is telling in our generation today. We now have women in the seat of power that is in government, ruling their states and some of their countries. Seeing independent women thriving in different sectors is a thing of joy to every female child. There are no longer restrictions on their educations at least to some reasonable percentage. The world is advanced, and many countries now empower their female children as much as they do their male children.
While fighting for a female child to have a say in society, what about the male or boy child? Should they be excluded from the empowerment? Well in my opinion, I will say no, although a male child has an automatic empowerment that comes with being a male child, someone who will spearhead the responsibilities of the family, carry the family lineage, and produce other generations aside from that, a male child is considered a better leader. Society believes they have all it takes to rule, such as leadership skills and a strong heart, not as fragile as a female child who gets emotional over little things.
Even though a male child has always been considered to be the best leader, they also should be encouraged and empowered to do more than they've always done. There is a saying in my tribe that goes thus, "an encouragement interests one to do more". I believe a male child should be given the same opportunity as a female child, though, in discussion with a friend earlier; he opposes this because he believes females don't have what it takes to lead successfully; then we've seen females do exploits in their various fields which is no longer news. This is why I will say gender equality shouldn't be a crime; it's just that there should be moderation in everything.
