Hello hivers! How are you? Hope you’re all doing great. For today’s blog, I want to share to you how I cook this river snail, an exotic food that loved by many filipinos.
We call this Liddeg in Ilokano, they call it Suso in Tagalog. And it is called River Snail in English.
How eat this dish?
You need to pull the meat of the shell using snail fork. But you can also slurp or just suck the meat. Just be careful to not eat the thin round cover of the shell, simply removed it before sucking the meat.
Now that you know how to eat this dish, I can show you how I cooked this.
Prepare all the ingredients needed.
- Tomato
- Garlic
- Onion
- Ginger
- Bagoong
- Cooking oil
- Water
Simple Process
- Wash and clean the river snails, especially the shells. Then cut the pointed part on the lower part of the shell, by doing that it's easier to get/suck the meat from the shell
But before cleaning the shells, make sure that you already soaked the shells in the water to remove river shells toxins.
- Washed and slice the tomatoes
- Slice and chop the onion and garlic
- Chop a lot of ginger to have a hot spicy taste of the river snail
After preparing all the ingredients needed, prepare a pan and put cooking oil in it.
I saute the ginger first. After 2 mins. I added the garlic
I added the onion and when it sauted, I put the sliced tomato.
When they were all sauted, I put the river snail or the suso in a pan.
I put the bagoong sauce to taste
My housemates requested that the outcome should just have a little soup but oily one. The oil should be notice with the small amount of soup but I should cooked the river snail well that's why I added 3 cups of water, cooked well, and waited until the river snail absorbed a lot of soup.
There was a little soup there, you just can't see it haha.
And just after some minutes, the dish is cooked! Let's eat.
I'm glad that they like it. My sister said it's good.
The outcome may seems dry because of the photo I took but there's still their request, it's still a little oily soup.
It was easy cooking this exotic dish, you can try it also!
I love the outcome of the dish, it tasted hot and spicy with the ginger, the taste is not too salty but just exactly.
That's all for today's blog, I hope you liked it!
