A library is a place where ancient information is stored, for the use of future generations. I know the saying that if you want to hide information that will save an African man, put it inside a book.
There is this adage that says when a new wife is married, the elderly one is forgotten. Libraries are libraries, e-books are digitals.
In this age and time, nobody goes to the library again just a few students and a few researchers. Yes, we can get the information we can get there online but some crucial information are not online, we can still see it in the library.
Libraries offer more than just books, They serve as a community hub, providing a shared space for people to connect, learn, and grow. During those days whenever am going to the library, I usually go to my friend's house and drag them alone. I love the peace and quietness in the library, you get to read and understand with no phone distractions.
During those days, we studied with all seriousness and we shared ideals, we got to meet different people and make new friends too. Most modern libraries have computers, the internet, and some digital tools, which will help you to put down whatever knowledge you got from the library and send it to your G-mail for further research at home.
Librarians provide expert research assistance, helping patrons navigate complex information. Some of our libraries assist us back then to find the books we are looking for or point us to the shelf where a book is been kept. Sometimes they organized children's programs, reading and understanding competitions, it was funny back then, every book we were looking for was there, sometimes we signed and went home with some.
In this digital age, most students do their research from their phones, These days most people prefer to use their phones or laptops to do research. Digital libraries are accessible 24/7, from anywhere with an internet connection, unlike libraries that are limited. You can carry a vast collection of e-books, articles, and other resources on your phone.
Digital libraries take up minimal storage space, making them ideal for small devices. Digital libraries can be accessed by people with disabilities, remote communities, and those with limited mobility, unlike libraries some are in distant locations where we need to pay for transportation and try to get there on time too, so one can meet up with the business of the day.
As much as digital libraries seem to be the ones almost everybody has embraced, there are still some kind of disadvantages to them. Using your phone can be distracting, with notifications, social media, and other apps competing for your attention at the same time, I remember one time I was studying and suddenly a notification entered and I tried to read it, I was carried away, it took a call from my sister to remain me, what I was doing before the notification.
Studying with digital libraries on a small screen for extended periods can cause eye strain and fatigue if you use a laptop, allowing the light rays to penetrate your eyes a lot causing eye defects. You can't even study or do any research on the internet without a connection on your phone or laptop, which is another limitation.
No, libraries should not be forgotten because of the digital age. Resources should be put into the physical library, make the environment more conducive for the readers, install more desktops, and put internet for readers. Not all information that was can be found online, some are in the library that why the physical library is ancient just like the museum.
Ultimately, the more efficient option depends on your specific needs and preferences. If you value social interaction, and research assistance, visiting a physical library might be the better choice. However, if you prioritize convenience and accessibility, using digital resources on your phone could be the more efficient option. It is all by choice.
