I shared two years ago how I value dating myself; how I love dating myself in all ways possible. Today, I'll share another time I dated myself.
I love trying out new shades or techniques of hair coloring. This time I tried balayage defined as "a technique of free-hand painting highlights onto the hair, creating a soft and natural gradation of lightness towards the ends" [1] Countless friends and colleagues have tried this technique and I've been meaning to get one for myself. More than two years later, I finally got this as a reward for enduring life's unexpected battles. This was strategically scheduled a few weeks before a major local trip, too.
If you ask me why it took two long years before I decided to get a new hair color, the answer is simple. I don't want my already-damaged hair to get worse. I had to let my natural black hair grow long enough for the damaged hair to be cut.
Aside from trying a new technique, I wanted to try this trendy hair salon known for its quality service. I inquired and booked a schedule . I heard you need to book in advance; I did just that. Their schedules are usually full most of the time.
The stories from friends coupled with some reviews I read online didn't fail me. From the moment I stepped into the salon, I was treated like a VIP. They were kind to ask if there's a specific style I want for my hair. I showed them a few photo inspos or pegs I've been eyeing to achieve for my hair. They explained that the exact color might not be achieved; the final color will depend on my hair's quality and other factors which are beyond the stylists control. I totally understood and proceeded with it anyway. Don't worry if you don't have any color or style in mind as they're masters of their crafts and they can definitely recommend one that will suit you best.
The long, arduous day began by washing my hair and analyzing how they'll come up with the specific style I wanted. There were at least 3 stylists doing my hair, one being the main stylist while the others help on executing the directives from the main stylist. I couldn't explain the technicalities surrounding this transformation but I can tell you they used bleach, colors on top of colors, washing right after every bleach and color application, in the end they blow dried and used a hair straightening to finally seal the transformation. It easily consumed a little over 4 hours to make this transformation happen. It hurt my butt more than anything else but it's worth it! I was more confident seeing the new hair's effect had on my appearance. Excited to try other hair and perhaps wild colors next time!
