One of the things I love about the holiday periods in school environments is how quiet and empty the place becomes. With the majority of the population being students, a lot of them travel out when the school goes on breaks. Right now, the school is on Easter break and many students have gone to spend it with their family.
So, with fewer people around, the neighborhood is more quiet and there is less noise in the area. Normally, people would be blasting music from their speakers or generators would be on by this time, but it’s just a quiet Sunday morning for the bunch of us who are yet to travel. And it’s so cool.
Another upside to the holiday season is that there is always a more reliable power supply. With the population drastically reduced, the number of consumers drop and as a result, the collective load that we consume also drops as well. This means that we have more power than when the school is in session. So, we’ll be sleeping more often with light, and even during the day, there’ll be power as well.
But then, what can I say? It’s all awesome. The holiday period is not that long and by next week Tuesday, everyone will come back. I didn’t see it as worth traveling for. Because for me, by the time I get to where I’m going and recover from being jetlagged, the holiday is over and I have to start coming back. Nah… it was just too short for me.
That was the reason I was choosing to focus instead on getting other things done. I have so much to do during this holiday and if care is not taken, it’ll all go by and I won’t achieve one thing at all. I do so much for clients and for others, I guess it’s about time that I did something for myself. It’s very important and the sooner I wrap my head around that fact, the better it’ll be for me.
Anyway, it’s Easter, and normally, it’s a period of celebration for Christians. It’s one of those periods where I wish I was back home in Lagos with my family because I know very well that I would have a great time. But like I said, the holiday is too short for me to be traveling all the way to Lagos. So, I’m staying back here and enjoying it in a way that I can.
I’ve already made up my mind to have a good time and no matter what, that’s what’s going to happen. It’s been a stressful couple of months and this is the first time in the year that I’m taking the time to actually relax and have a bit of fun. It’s been a long time coming, so I don’t want to miss it for anything at all. Because I know that come Tuesday, things will return to how they used to be and I’ll be plagued once again with another couple of weeks of stress and work.
But what can I say? I look forward to it all.
