    What Is GHAWG?

#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.

More details can be found in the first post of this weekly recap.

    Zapfic Entries 407-421

    4️⃣0️⃣7️⃣ 2024-March-30 00:08:39

At one time, Old Route 66 in New Mexico connected Albuquerque with Santa Fe. For that reason, we rode northeast on Interstate 25. Unlike with the path defined by Interstate 40, many towns dot the path defined by Interstate 25.
🏍️ Just as roads changed from the US Highway system to the Interstate system, the US Highway system itself experienced many changes during the time it was the main road system of the United States. Route 66 was no exception to these changes, and over the years its path had changed. Such a change took place in New Mexico, and David Guardia took advantage of this fact as he decided Our Heroes would follow a different route at this stage of the ride east.

    4️⃣0️⃣8️⃣ 2024-March-31 00:39:54

Leaving Albuquerque, we ride Interstate 25 past Bernalillo, El Llanito, Santa Ana Pueblo, Algodones, & Budaghers. It was after Budaghers that my Android phone notofied me that the drone carrying my package was a few miles south.
🏍️ This would normally be a zapfic travel entry, only it's the start of the dynamic drone sequence where the final part of the transaction take plae between David Guardia and his service providers. He had paid one provider for the vests, a second provider for the logo work, and a third provider for en route delivery (a form of drop shipping).

    4️⃣0️⃣9️⃣ 2024-April-01 00:20:06

The drone picks up speed to catch up to us as we ride Interstate 25 north & east for another 11 miles. By a coincidence of good timing, we make visual contact with the drone at La Bajada Rest Area. That's were we pause our ride.
🏍️ This would be the "chase" sequence of the sequence as Our Heroes are in transit on the highway. Finding La Bajada Rest Area was a stroke of good fortune, otherwise Out Heroes would have had to pull over by the side of the road away from the conveniences offered by the rest area.

    4️⃣1️⃣0️⃣ 2024-April-02 01:20:39

The drone pings my Android phone for authentication. My phone pings back to confirm my identity as the consignee for the delivery. After I make my electronic signature, the drone flies away. I tell everyone to come around me.
🏍️ While not exactly like how David Guardia made his delivery to Harry Hoqualogue at STURGIS, the drone completes its delivery to David. He takes delivery of the package at La Bajada Rest Area. This ends the dynamic drone sequence.

    4️⃣1️⃣1️⃣ 2024-April-03 00:01:15

"Lindsay," I tell her as I put the yellow vest on her. "Welcome to Felix Legion. You're part of the crew!"

Once the rest of us see Lindsay show off the new logo, we give her a round of applause. She was touched by this gesture.
🏍️ Lindsay Etxeberria was the last person to join with Our Heroes, and that's only because before that she wasn't. Given what she was doing in Portland, Oregon, US, it can be said (at best) that she was an anti-hero. With that history, David Guardia wanted to make sure she felt part of the crew. So he opted for this approach: the last shall be first.

    4️⃣1️⃣2️⃣ 2024-April-04 01:29:48

I repeated the ritual for Sanjay, Lionel, Hank, Frank, and Rhonda. Each time, we applauded the new member of Felix Legion. For me, Rhonda completed the ritual: "This is the leader of FELIX LEGION!" I was touched by the applause.
🏍️ This entry is similar to the previous zapfic entry in its repetition of the "induction" into Felix Legion. David Guardia can't repeat the ritual for himself, so that task falls to the second-seniormost member of the crew, Rhonda Bella Guardia. At this point, the crew really is a crew, a unified team with strong esprit de corps.

    4️⃣1️⃣3️⃣ 2024-April-05 00:08:54

"As we ride east along Old Route 66 and beyond to get each of us home"-- I look at Rhonda-- "we only have each other for safety and protection. We're not The Mongols, but we're a crew as we ride together. Now, we look like one."
🏍️ David Guardia gives Felix Legion his speech as its leader. As they rode from STURGIS to Portland to San Diego, California, US, they had the luxury of safety not only in greater numbers but with a group whose reputation had preceded it wherever it found itself. Without the cover provided by The Mongols, Felix Legion is on its own. As a result, the 7 members of Felix Legion must rely on each other for their safety on the road.

    4️⃣1️⃣4️⃣ 2024-April-06 00:07:18

A right-facing lion's head dominates the logo. Behind it is a red Templar's Cross. Horizontally appears the text FELIX LEGION. Vertically appears in smaller text EST. 2028. On top are 5 small capital letters: G,H,A,W, and G.
🏍️ The historic Felix Legion, Legio Quarta Flavia Felix, had a lion as its symbol, so Felix Legion uses a lion's head. The Templar's Cross which dominated the Guardia Courier Services logo can be seen in the background. While all Roman forces featured the letters SPQR (styled as "S.P.Q.R."), these specific members of Felix Legion will show the letters GHAWG (styled as "G.H.A.W.G.") on their vests.

    4️⃣1️⃣5️⃣ 2024-April-08 00:08:36

"Why call us Felix Legion?" Lindsay asked me.

"My first choice was The Templars, but that name had been taken buy an outlaw motorcycle club. I don't want to cause trouble for anyone, so I settled on Felix Legion the other day."
🏍️ David Guardia's explanation in the zapfic entry reflects the research I had done to make sure I would be able to use the name "The Templars" for this crew. Unlike with David Guardia, I had the good fortune of running into another airng of the 2000 movie Gladiator; he ran into the movie by dumb luck.

    4️⃣1️⃣6️⃣ 2024-April-08 00:10:42

"It's also a reference from a key scene in Gladiator where Russell Crowe's character, the literal Hispanic general-turned-slave, reveals his identity to Emperor Commodus.

"Gladiator, that does sound familiar," said Lindsay.
🏍️ Lindsay Etxeberria was so locked in to her life as a far-left activist that she had no time for activities we would take for granted, including watching movies for entertainment. Keeping up with pop culture wasn't a concern for her for many years. She must have seen the movie, or at least been exposed to it, when she was a child.

    4️⃣1️⃣7️⃣ 2024-April-09 00:00:33

I quoted: "My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius. Commander of the Armies of the North. General of the Felix Legions. Loyal servant to the true Emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife."
🏍️ This is the money quote right there. This is what David Guardia had seen at the hotel 3 days earlier back in Gallup, New Mexico, US.

    4️⃣1️⃣8️⃣ 2024-April-10 00:03:51

"--and I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next," said Lionel as he completed the quote from that key scene."

    "Whoa!" said Lindsay."

"Now you're quoting Neo from The Matrix," said Rhonda. Lindsay laughed at that.
🏍️ This zapfic entry was a way to get others involved in the scene, especially Lionel Odunsi. Keeping with the Gladiator motif, Lindsay was entertained by Rhonda Bella Guardia's reference to The Matrix. Since The Matrix was released before Gladiator and Lindsay had some recollection about Gladiator, we can infer that she was also exposed to The Matrix as a child.

    4️⃣1️⃣9️⃣ 2024-April-11 00:03:54

We called it a day at the Best Western Plus Inn of Santa Fe. Again, Lionel scored us some good room rates. While channel surfing, Lindsay ran into Gladiator. She saw the key scene for herself and nodded slowly. "Felix Legion."
🏍️ This day-- currently calculated to be 2028-October-01-- featured Lindsay Etxeberria being the first inducted member of Felix Legion. It ends with her watching the key scene from Gladiator for herself on television. This was a milestone day in her life. My plan was to give Lindsay about a week to enjoy life as part of Felix Legion before complications arise to challenge her life in ways she hadn't expected.

    4️⃣2️⃣0️⃣ 2024-April-12 00:55:21

"Starting today," I began, "we ride as Felix Legion. We're a much smaller group. We're also more maneuverable. So going forward we'll ride longer distances. Our next layover will be at Cuervo, about 120 miles from Santa Fe."
🏍️ When David Guardia was by himself at the start of his Epic Ride, he was covering distances of multiple hundreds of miles at a time. When he was riding with the uncanny Manny Rey, he was still covering long distances (just not 325 miles as he did when he was by himself). It was similar whe Rhonda Bella replaced Manny Rey as his co-pilot. It was after David's unnamed crew and The Mongols led by Harry Hoqualogue teamed up to form Our Heroes that the combined group would be covering distances of 60 to 90 miles a day. Now the the reduced group known as Felix Legion takes the road, it was time to increase the average daily distance covered.

    4️⃣2️⃣1️⃣ 2024-April-13 00:10:06

On leaving Santa Fe, we rode southeast on US Hwy 285. 50 miles later past Clines Corners we returned to I-40 & US Route 66. Upon further review, we decided to call it a night at Santa Rosa; Cuervo didn't have accommodations.
🏍️ With this zapfic entry, Felix Legion returns to the path believed to be Old Route 66 as discovered by The Kids and The Twins during the time The Newlyweds were on their honeymoon in San Diego. It also showed Felix Legion on the road longer than anticipated since the small town of Cuervo, New Mexico, US didn't have enough accomodations to serve Felix Legion.

The "fashion upgrade" planned by David Guardia for the reduced group known as Our Heroes took place en route to Santa Fe, New Mexico, US. This is where the group assumed the additional identity of Felix Legion.
