Today we spent a wonderful day as a family and I want to share it with you.
As you have been able to see, our family is still small, but we enjoy every moment we can share. These carnival holidays have allowed us to be very close, like melcocha.
Yesterday we decided to go to the carnivals, as they are very different from those in our homeland, Cuba. It is a unique and very creative experience. For that reason, we got up early so we could do our housework and have everything ready to leave at 4:30, in time to see the floats.
In my country the carnivals last several days and the last day is the children's carnival, the floats and the troupes are with children, here everything is very mixed, there are troupes of children then adults and a large part of the floats are made by the ingenuity of families and they put on their float a costumed host and they are usually children.

Hoy pasamos un día maravilloso en familia y quiero compartirlo con ustedes.
Como han podido ver, nuestra familia sigue siendo pequeña, pero disfrutamos cada momento que podemos compartir. Estos días festivos de carnaval nos han permitido estar muy unidos, como melcocha.
Ayer decidimos ir a los carnavales, ya que son muy diferentes a los de nuestra tierra natal, Cuba. Es una experiencia única y muy creativa. Por esa razón, nos levantamos temprano para poder hacer las tareas del hogar y tener todo listo para salir a las 4:30, a tiempo para ver las carrozas.
En mi país los carnavales duran varios días y el último día es el carnaval infantil las carrozas y las comparsas son con niños, acá todo va muy mezclados hay comparsas de niños después de adultos y una gran parte de las carrozas son hechas por ingenio de familias y ponen en su carroza un anfitrión disfrazado y son por lo general niños.
During these days, most people consume alcoholic beverages, but we settled for soft drinks.
We left in the car towards 31 de julio avenue and it was almost impassable. We had a hard time finding a place on the side of the avenue, but we finally made it. The parade began when the police opened the way for the floats of the municipality's mayor's office to pass, the first and the one that threw the most candies. The mayor himself threw the candies, accompanied by many of the workers of the mayor's office, even dressed as clowns. It was quite original. Then several floats passed by, some more creative than others. There were even comparsas with drums and very catchy tunes. I couldn't resist and ended up dancing with them down the avenue.
Durante estos días, la mayoría de las personas consumen bebidas alcohólicas, pero nosotros nos conformamos con refrescos.
Salimos en el carro hacia la avenida 31 de julio y ya estaba casi intransitable. Nos costó mucho encontrar un lugar al lado de la avenida, pero finalmente lo logramos. El desfile comenzó cuando la policía abrió el paso para que pasaran las carrozas de la alcaldía del municipio, la primera y la que más caramelos lanzó. El propio alcalde lanzaba los caramelos, acompañado por gran parte de los trabajadores de la alcaldía, disfrazados incluso de payasos. Fue algo bastante original. Luego pasaron varias carrozas, unas más creativas que otras. Incluso hubo comparsas con tambores y melodías muy pegajosas. No pude resistirme y terminé bailando un tramo con ellos por la avenida.
There were very original costumes, like the one of a lady whose dress was made of banana leaves and stems. I was quite surprised.
Había trajes muy originales, como el de una señora cuyo vestido estaba hecho de hojas y tallos de plátano. Me sorprendió bastante.
I also loved a small float carrying a beautiful girl, the "corn princess", whose costume was made of flowers made from dried corn husks. It was very original and contrasted with the girl's beauty.
También me encantó una pequeña carroza que llevaba a una niña bella, la "princesa del maíz", cuyo traje estaba hecho de flores hechas con hojas de maíz secas. Fue muy original y contrastaba con la belleza de la niña.
There were floats with many feathers and very colorful, typical of a carnival. In my native country, the floats are huge and have music incorporated, but here they are small, very original and colorful.
Hubo carrozas con muchas plumas y muy coloridas, típico de un carnaval. En mi país natal, las carrozas son inmensas y llevan la música incorporada, pero aquí son pequeñas, muy originales y coloridas.
Some are driven by a vehicle in front with horns, and others are pushed while the host wearing the costume dances and walks. It is something atypical for me, but very original.
Algunas son llevadas por un vehículo delante con bocinas, y otras son empujadas mientras el anfitrión que lleva el disfraz baila y camina. Es algo atípico para mí, pero muy original.
I could not fail to mention and show you the carousel that shows one of the emblematic trees of the island which is the Araguaney that when it flowers the mountains turn yellow because they give so many flowers that the tree is covered with yellow and loses almost all the leaves, the street where I live is named after it and in my house I have planted an Araguaney tree and it is a spectacle, they grow in the mountains very well but I was given it when I was a posture and last year it sprouted for the first time and it was beautiful.
No podía dejar de mencionarles y mostrarle la carrosa que muestra una de los árboles emblemáticos de la Isla que es el Araguaney que cuando flores las montañas se tornan amarillas ya que dan tantas flores que el árbol se cubre de amarillo y pierde casi todas las hojas, la calle donde yo vivo lleva su nombre y en mi casa tengo plantado un árbol Araguaney y es todo un espectáculo, se dan en las montañas muy bien pero a mí me lo regalaron cuando era una postura y el año pasado broto por primer vez y fue hermoso.
We stayed until the last float went by. It was awesome and a lot of fun for us.
Nos quedamos hasta que pasó la última carroza. Fue algo impresionante y muy divertido para nosotros.
What we enjoy most is spending time together. At the end of the carnival, we went home charged with positive energy that will help us face the work week with better spirits.
