I am going to deviate a bit from what I regularly write about to provide something that many might find helpful.
This is a mental exercise which is at the core of all success. Unfortunately, most of us tend to not implement this. Instead, we allow fear, self-doubt, or the opinions of others to influence us.
What would you do if you were the best at something?
This is something to consider. What is your demeanor? How would your day look? What actions would you take?
Most importantly, what would your mindset be?
This is what we will discuss in this article.

Act As If You Are The Best
Have you ever tried something you were unsure of? Did you ever get nervous about the idea of something new?
This could be a job or learning a new skill. It could be giving a speech in front of a live audience.
Whatever the situation, which there are thousands, how did you approach it? How should you approach it?
The answer to this is simple: approach it as if you were already the best.
Consider this shift in mindset. What if that were actually the case? Again, look at the questions above. Think about those answers.
Let us take the example of public speaking.
In my lifetime, with the exception of Joe Biden, all Presidents were adept at public speaking. Actually you can say this for almost all congressional members. Going back to Jimmy Carter, every President was able to deliver a speech to an audience.
Of course, some were better than others. I would say the top 3, in no particular order, were Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump. Their oratory skills were better than most.
It is not uncommon for ex-presidents to head to the speaking circuit once they leave office. Bill Clinton earning millions giving speeches. He would show up and take home $50K-$100K. This is one of the perks of the office it seems.
Do you think Bill Clinton is nervous before a speech? Do you think he shies away from it?
The answer is he relishes it. Naturally, he is a master by this point in his life. However, there is a lesson we can all learn.
Simply pictures ourselves at his level. While our skillset might not be there, it is likely the bar is not quite as high as when big money is being paid.
The point here is we can mentally prepare ourselves to outperform. As with anything, we get better over time as we repeat the process. However, if we stop ourselves from taking action, we are cooked.
Apply This To Anything
Life is a mental game.
This seems like a stretch to many but success always starts in the head. That does not mean that sitting on one's hind end will materialize results. Actually it will except nothing productive in most instances.
Action is required. That said, most people do not take the action they should because of their mindset.
I once has a sales manager who said the hardest door to get through was the car door. What he meant is that most sales people fear rejection to the point they will hide from making calls. One you open the car door and get out, you are on your way.
Would the top sales person hide in his or her vehicle? Does the top author not write? Are the top actors or actresses afraid to go on auditions?
Can you see Taylor Swift not going on stage because she is scared or afraid to perform?
Of course, this is not only relegated to the best. There was singers who stand in front of audiences for plays, in church, and elsewhere who sing their hearts out. They stand up there the same as any professional singer.
Thus, adopt the mindset you are the best. This is your starting point. Notice it said "starting" and not ending. From there, action is required. Often, we need to hone our skills. Doing is one way. Another is study, mentorship, or research. The key here is to not get caught up in those things to the point where we stop taking the action.
This is a mental exercise that you might find helpful.
