This book tells the story of a girl named Keiko Furukura who has been a part-time clerk at a convenience store since she was 18 years old. She is very happy to work as a convenience store clerk for her Minimarket is the only place that considers her a normal girl.
As a child she was often considered abnormal by some of her friends. When she found a dead bird in the park, instead of asking her mother to bury the bird Keiko asked her mother to take the bird home, fry it and eat it as a side dish. During elementary school, when her friends had a fight, Keiko hit one of them on the head with a shovel. Since this incident Keiko decided not to speak up as much as possible when outside the house. Choosing to imitate others or follow others' instructions and stop taking action herself.
Keiko's parents once took her away to the city for a counseling session, at first the therapist thought there was a problem with Keiko's family but there was not. Her parents raised her and loved her well. After high school and college, Keiko remained as before, always alone and not having private conversations with others. This made Keiko's parents worried that their daughter could not live in society.
But since working part-time at a newly opened convenience store Keiko seems to have found a normal life within herself. She was considered the same as the other employees. The convenience store became a part of Keiko's life. She was diligent and industrious at work. She made good friends and managers. Although the outside world was harsh for Keiko, demanding that she be a full-time employee at the age of 36, demanding that she find a partner and have offspring, assuming that anyone who did not fit the standard was considered abnormal.

From Keiko, I've learned that often the society around us interferes with our way of life demanding that we conform to their views. We should not hesitate to reject it even though we may be considered strange, the most important thing is to feel comfortable with the principles we make and not care about what others think about us. The book, which is presented simply with light language, contains only 160 pages. It seems like a book that can be read completely in one sitting, but make no mistake there are a lot of realities that we often experience in social life. Are you interested in reading this book?
