A saturday stroll turned into a trip to the pub !

My wife and I went out for a walk late afternoon yesterday, and because our daughter was staying over at a friends house, we ended up going on a wee pub crawl !

Our first stop was 'The Hampton'. They had all of these empty beer barrels stacked up outside the pub. Because its rugby season and they are really close to Murrayfield Stadium, they will have been having some very busy saturday's when Scotland are playing - so I guess thats why they had this huge stack of empties outside.

We had a couple of pints of Coors to start with. Its an American lager. I quite like it, although it is very light to taste, with barely a taste of hops. I do find it good for quenching a thirst. I'd downed mine quite quick, and so we had to have a repeat round.

The Hampton is quite a nice and friendly local pub. The prices are good, and there were a few people in. They had the football on the TV - Aston Villa bs Luton, so there were a few people in to watch that.

My wife quite liked the lights that were above our table ! We are looking for new ceiling lights for our living room, so we had to take a snap of these ones, as this is a style she would like to get.

So having had two rounds in the Hampton, we decided to move on. We were originally out for a walk after all, so we had to get some more steps in.

Right next door to the Hampton is this cool garden setup. It looked really cool in the early evening with the lights on.

We walked along Corstorphine Road, which is one of the main roads into and out of Edinburgh. We passed this beautiful street light on the bridge at Roseburn. I dont think the light shade is meant to be like that, but it seemed to have a plant or something growing inside of it, and it gave it that great look.

Our next stop was the Roseburn Bar, which is one of my favs. I had a McEwan's 80 shilling (a Scottish heavy beer), and my wife had a Birra Moretti which is a nice Italian lager. I really like the beer's from McEwans, and particularly 80 shilling. Its very smooth and a little creamy. I dont actually find McEwan's in the pubs that often these days, so I do tend to have it when I see it.

The Roseburn is quite a traditional Edinburgh pub, and quite popular. You can see the Scottish flag hanging up there on the right - again this is for the rugby, as the Roseburn is extremely popular on game days - you have to queue to get in before the game.

We did actually go to another pub for one more round after this, but I forgot to take photos. We stopped in at 'The Murrayfield', which is on the opposite corner of the block from the Roseburn. Its recently changed ownership, and has been given a spruce up. We each had a pint of Heinekin in there (a nice Dutch beer, which is a little more hopy compared to the other lagers we had this evening).

So it was a nice 'walk' - we ended up with 4 rounds of drinks in 3 pubs ! That aint too bad. I then had a nice little Jack Daniels when we got home to finish it off, while watching an old concert of Muddy Waters playing with the Rolling Stones, which just happened to be on TV - I'm a massive fan of Muddy Waters ! That was a nice way to finish the evening.
