Stone walls and Cow's noses

Stone Walls in my back garden

There's something I just love about dry stone walls. No mortor. No cement. Just craft. Stones fit together perfectly.

We bought our house three years ago and we're lucky enough that it had two boundary walls that are dry stone, as you'll see in the photos below.

They are really nice to look out on from the kitchen, sitting room or conservatory. Every season offers a different vista, but the blue sky days in spring are among the best with grey stone contrasting beautifully with the greenest of grass and the azure blue or the sky.

Add a few whispy cumulus and cirrus clouds to the mix and you have a beautiful mix of colours as you see below. Although those bottom clouds are definitely carrying moisture, so are nimbostratus I suppose.

This field behind the house usually has cows in it during Spring and Summer and some of Autumn. My wife especially loves it when the cows are there. She loves their noses for some reason!

I'm fact one of our favourite artists Eoin O'Connor specialises in painting cows and their noses, although the painting we have from his collection is a landscape one, as you'll see below.

I like having art on the walls around our house. I think it adds some colour and character to the place.
