Suzume

I found her lying on the couch, her face on the pillow muffling her sobs. The pillow didn't do a wonderful job as it were the sobs that led me to her in the first place.
I stood behind the couch, still wondering if I should intrude- intrude even more as I've already let myself in the unlocked apartment.
I stood watching her cry, my lovely best friend, heart broken more than a few times, mind wounded numerously from the quest of love.
After a while, I decided to sit down beside her and just let her sob, she shifted her knees in a way of acknowledging I was there and accepting the invitation, I sat more comfortably.
The sobs were silent now, she just sat still, her head still on the pillow. I didn't bother her or ask for questions.
I already knew what happened. I had known it would happen for a while now.
After what seemed like an eternity of silence she finally spoke.
    "I left."

I didn't answer, waiting for more.
"The date was going so well, I was so happy, he was so happy, then...then..."
She began crying again, this time I put my palm at the small of her back and rubbed her.
Trying my best to not try and stop her cries, she needed to cry.
    "I'm so frustrating!!"
"Maybe just a little bit." I replied quietly.
"It was going so well... Why did I run?"
She asked before starting to cry again.

"Why did you run?" I asked her back, genuinely curious.
    "I.. I don't know." She calmed down.
"I just saw the ring and froze. I didn't expect it."
    I looked at her questioningly.
"Okay, maybe I expected it, but still... It was too soon. A proposal, we've just been seeing for a few months."
"I believe after twelve, they start counting it by years."
    "Still it's too soon!"
She screamed before putting her face on the pillow again.

"Im knowm I'm actingm likem am babym." She said, words muffled through the pillow.
    "You are."
She raised up her head and looked at me.
"You're not good in the consoling aspect."
"You're not the one who got rejected."
    "I didn't reject him."
"You only ran off as he proposed to you in a restaurant filled with people."
She looked down as I said that. I kept quiet too.

    "How did you do it?"
"How did I do what?" I asked back.
She gestured at the ring I wore as a necklace.
"We both lost our partners, how did you move on, how did you get over it."
My mind flashed back to the day we got the news.
The best friends who got killed in an accident, leaving their partners alone, forced to console each other and in the end inherit their friendship.
"What makes you think I did?"
"If you didn't get over her, how did you remarry? Why did you do that?" She looked at me expectantly, from her eyes I could see that this was a question she'd been dying to ask for a while.

"Why did I do it? Well, I had a daughter, and I had no clue on how to raise her with my grief. At least not until Martha came along."
I used my thumb to play with the different silver ring on my index finger.
"She brought happiness to my daughter, she brought peace to me."
"I didn't forget Kelly, she would always be my wife, just how Jarold would always be yours, yet they're gone now and we need to live."
She looked at me in silence, her eyes seemed to grow cold.
"There's one thing I understood when I watched Jarold's body being lowered into the grave David. When you die, death doesn't happen to you. No.
Death happens to the people around you, the people in your funeral, watching your body being covered with dirt, they are the people that truly die."
I kept quiet as she continued.
"I'm dead David, dead and buried with Jarold."
"Yet you're alive when you're with him."
    "I can't be with Harry."
    "Why not?" I asked loudly.
"You're always happy when your with him, you have a smile brighter than life, a smile I haven't seen since when Jarold was alive."

"Even if I am happy, I've probably ruined it now, I can't go back."
    "You can."
"All you need to do is call him. Call him Mary, call him and tell him how you feel..."
    I gave her the phone..

This is just a quick story put together after listening to the music video.
The song Suzume is from an anime movie of the same name and it's quite a lot.
Packed with so much emotion after listening to it, I decided to write something and this is what I came out with ^_^
