Tales from the Road: My Worst and Best Travel Experiences

Moving from one place to the other is no longer safe for us in my country because we are dealing with insecurity, the level at which people go missing instills fear in my people and this always makes most of us sit back.

Everyone is now afraid of kidnappers, moving from one street to the other is no longer safe, but that doesn't mean we won't go out anytime we want.

    MY WORST EXPERIENCE

One of my worst experiences while traveling was when I was robbed on the way, it was a long journey that year, this happened two years back, I was coming from Lagos, I went for an interview in Lagos and I decided to see my mother, my brother had already promised to book a flight for me but I was seriously missing my Mum so I declined his offer and go by road because my mother isn't staying with us in Abuja, she stays in Ekiti state and this is the best opportunity to see her.

It has been more than four years since I set my eyes on my Mum, I was seriously missing her, and she is someone who doesn't like to travel long distances, so I decided to use one stone to kill two birds by visiting her and from her side I can go back to my base, I left Lagos to Ekiti after my interview, the day was a sour one for me.

I left with the first bus, and on our way to Osun State was where we encountered this robbery, our bus was blocked from the back and there was a big plank in the front full of nails, there was no escape route for us, we were the first bus to be robbed that day, I nearly peed on myself because that was my first experience, they collected everything and left us with nothing, the good thing was that we had already paid in the park and I also have extra ATM card which I always put in my traveling bag, that was what saved me.

The expensive phone that I got a month before the incident was gone and I nearly ran mad because I used all my savings to get that phone, but the fear of six hefty men holding guns will never let me drag or hide the phone, I gave the phone willingly when I saw a gun pointed at us, it was a bad experience that I do not wish for anybody to experience.

    MY BEST TRAVELING EXPERIENCE

My best experience was when I visited one of the best cities in the southern part of the country which is Akwa-Ibom, Akwa-Ibom is a lovely city, it was 13 hour's journey from my city, I enjoyed this trip because I met two guys on the bus who makes the journey a stress-free one and also become my gusting partner till date, I booked for this trip online because I do not want to encounter the worst journey again, as I entered the bus, I plugged in my earpiece and listen to music, not too long one of the guys tapped me and we started talking, the conversation was interesting and we got talking as if we had known each other for years, we clicked and exchanged contact not knowing that we are going to the same place.

We stopped at the same bus stop and we asked each other where we were heading to and that was how we knew we were going to the same place, we became friends and I was happy to meet them because they had impacted me.
