Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

Splinterlands is an Auto- battler Trading card game where players needs to build the most optimal lineup to win against their opponent under the different rulesets and mana cap that is thrown in to each battle. Because of that, having sufficient knowledge about cards and their synergies was very important in order to build game combos and strategies.

And so in this post, I'm gonna share to you the Camouflage- Sustain #SplinterlandsCardStrategy which is one of the strategies that is commonly used in the higher leagues as part of this week's Community Engagement Challenge and to make this strategy more clear, I will also show some battles that uses this strategy.

    Camouflage- Sustain Strategy

Rather than huge damage output, this strategy focuses more on defense and how to keep your cards alive while slowly depleting the life of the opponent and for this to work you will need three things and this were:

    • Summoner: Lily Shieldpaw

Among all the summoners, only Lily Shieldpaw can provide the Camouflage ability which will prevent all ally units from being directly attack unless they were in the first position. The only way by which opponents can attack monsters with camouflage was if they have the Blast Scattershot and Wing Break ability but for Sneak, Opportunity and Snipe ability, considered them to be useless as long as Camouflage ability was in effect. At the same time, it also has the Triage ability that could provide healing on backline units that receives damage in case some attacks were able to damage your other cards and gives +1 health on all ally units. Since Lily Shieldpaw was a dragon summoner, it can be used along with other available elements, making for this summoner really flexible in battle.

    • Main Tank: Grimbardun Smith

The next card that is a must have for this strategy was Grimbardun Smith. Although this card does not have an attack, it has both the Void and Shield ability which halves the damage it receive from opponent attacks whether it was melee, range or magic along with a decent amount of health and armor which would allow it to take decent amount of damage. At the same time, no Poison or negative status effects will work on this card as long as it has the Immunity ability while Repair will allow for it to restore the armor that it lost from the opponent attacks. Placing Grimbardun Smith as the main tank alone will make it very difficult for the opponent to defeat this cards even on its own.

    • Support cards with Tank Heal and Repair Abilities

The last type of card that would be necessary for this lineup were the support cards with Tank Heal and Repair abilities that would allow for us to make sure that Grimbardun Smith will be able to survive every attack that it receives by continuously restoring its health and armor. The more that we have this support cards in our lineup, the more that we can rest assured that no matter how the tank gets attacked, Grimbardun Smith will survive long enough until we defeat the opponent team.

    Battle Showcase

Now that we have the necessary pieces for our strategy, let's now go with some battles to have you see this strategy in action.

    Battle 1:

    image.png

On this battle, you can see that the opponent has clearly outnumbered me in terms of damage but even if that was the case, their attacks would be halved because of the Shield ability of Grimbardun Smith and any damage will go through its health will be quickly healed by Merdaali Guardian. Because of this, I was able to slowly got my way and defeat the opponent units one by one even if they have armor with them and my team was also behind in terms of speed.

At the end, I was able to defeat my opponent without even losing any of my units nor losing any armor or health.

    Battle 2:

    image.png

For this next battle, both teams were afflicted with Poison due to the effect of the Noxious Fumes ruleset except for those with Immunity which makes using Grimbardun Smith a logical option as well as for Lily Shieldpaw to provide backline healing with Triage. The opponent also uses smith but his defeat becomes apparent because he did not use the same summoner that causes for his backline to die faster.

At the end, I also loses some of my units but those were mainly due to the Poison, specially for Venari Marksrat so that Ican increase the stats of Merdhampir and Angelic Mandarin with Martyr.

    Closing

And with that, I have shown to you how the Camouflage- Sustain strategy works and how powerful it can be. Of course it is not perfect by any means and also have many counters to it but that is only applicable when your opponent knows it will come as well as if they have the necessary cards to counter the strategy so another advice that I could share is to not abuse this strategy on every battle in order to make your opponent confused.

Thank you and see you on the next post!
