The Cathedral of Caracas
After a long walk through the central area I decided to take some pictures in the cathedral of Caracas, the first church, built in the sixteenth century, which is located in the Plaza Mayor of the city and enjoys great importance, due to the great events that happened in the city throughout history.

La Catedral De Caracas Después de un largo paseo por el casco central decidí tomar algunas fotos en la catedral de Caracas, la primera Iglesia, construida en el siglo XVI, que por estar situada en la Plaza Mayor de la ciudad goza de mucha importancia, debido a los grandes acontecimientos que sucedieron en la ciudad a través de la historia.

And those experiences of the colonial era, were reflected in its corners and in its buildings dating from that time. The Cathedral does not escape its own events and at various times has been rebuilt because of the earthquakes that have occurred during its permanence. Again, in 1812, the country was shaken by an earthquake that caused many deaths and the collapse of numerous buildings. The temple suffered many damages in its infrastructure, later new repairs and reforms were made, which have not altered its unique beauty.
Y esas vivencias de la época colonial, quedaron plasmadas en sus esquinas y en sus edificaciones que datan de la época. La Catedral no escapa de los sucesos propios y en varios momentos ha sido reconstruida a causa de los sismos que han ocurrido durante su permanencia. Nuevamente, en 1812, el país fue sacudido por un terremoto que causó muchas muertes y el colapso de numerosas edificaciones. El templo sufrió muchos daños en su infraestructura, más tarde se le hicieron nuevas reparaciones y reformas, que no han alterado su singular belleza.
I was surprised by its open gates, and I did not hesitate to enter, I had long wanted to get some images. When you enter it, I felt the majesty and solemnity of the space, with wide aisles arranged with polished wooden benches, has five naves, a central nave, and two smaller ones, on each side, separating the central aisle a series of eighty-eight arches and a set of forty-four columns arranged on its sides, which highlight its elegance. The cathedral is distinguished by its Baroque, neo-baroque style, its cold colors, highlighting the religious images that are arranged in the side chapels. Other images are seen in the altarpieces with gold leaf finishes, enhancing their artistic value.
Me sorprendió sus portones abiertos, y no titubeé en entrar, hace tiempo que quería lograr unas imágenes. Cuando entras en ella, sentí la majestuosidad y solemnidad del espacio, con amplios pasillos dispuestos con bancos de madera pulida, cuenta con cinco naves, una nave central, y dos menores, a cada lado, separando el pasillo central una serie de ochenta y ocho arcos y un conjunto de cuarenta y cuatro columnas dispuestos en sus laterales, que resaltan su elegancia. La catedral se distingue por su estilo Barroco, neobarroco, sus colores fríos, hacen destacar las imágenes religiosas que se encuentran dispuestas en las capillas laterales. Otras imágenes las vemos en los retablos con acabados en hojilla de oro, realzando su valor artístico.
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Santa Ana was declared a National Monument in 1957. Its Historical and Cultural Heritage is composed of many works of art, very old, made by great artists. Among them we can highlight the work of the painter Arturo Michelena, the last supper, which remained unfinished because the artist died before finishing it. On its well distributed walls there are many stained glass windows depicting figures of saints who are venerated by the faithful throughout the country.
La Catedral Metropolitana de Santa Ana, fue declarada en 1957 Monumento Nacional. Su Patrimonio Histórico y Cultural se compone de muchas obras de arte, antiquísimas, realizadas por grandes artistas. Entre ellas podemos destacar la obra del pintor Arturo Michelena, la última cena, que quedó inconclusa porque el artista falleció antes de terminarla. En sus paredes muy bien distribuidas encontramos muchos vitrales que representan figuras de santos que son venerados por la feligresía de todo el país.
When we enter through the main door, on the right, we find the chapel of the Holy Trinity, where the remains of the family of Simón Bolívar rest. Later, when the Liberator died, his remains remained in the same chapel from 1842 to 1876, then they were transferred to the National Pantheon. In this same nave I was surprised to see in a chapel, an offering from Venezuela to the Blessed Sacrament.
Cuando entramos por su puerta principal, a la derecha, encontramos la capilla de la Santísima Trinidad, donde reposan los restos de la familia de Simón Bolívar. Más tarde, al fallecer el Libertador, sus restos permanecieron en la misma capilla desde 1842 hasta 1876, luego fueron trasladados al Panteón Nacional. En esta misma nave me sorprendió ver en una capilla, una ofrenda de Venezuela al Santísimo Sacramento.
As Holy Week approaches, many saints and works of art are changed from their original place and remain during this time in other chapels, to be exposed to the parishioners. In this way we find the Virgin of Coromoto, patron saint of Venezuela, and we also observe José Gregorio Hernández, declared blessed by the Catholic Church, a distinguished Venezuelan doctor who is called the doctor of the poor.
Como ya se acerca la Semana Santa, muchos santos y obras de arte son cambiados de su sitio original y permanecen durante este tiempo en otras capillas, para ser expuestas a la feligresía. De esta forma encontramos a la Virgen del Coromoto, patrona de Venezuela, y también observamos a José Gregorio Hernández, declarado beato por la Iglesia Católica, insigne médico venezolano que es denominado el médico de los pobres.
There are many saints that are exposed and each one has its history, in the Catholic religion, in the morning hours you can notice many believers who enter the temple, raise their prayers and leave with the blessing of God, to start a new day of work.
Son muchos los santos que están expuestos y cada uno tiene su historia, en la religión católica, en horas de la mañana se puede notar a muchas personas creyentes que entran al templo, elevan sus plegarias y salen con la bendición de Dios, para iniciar un nuevo día de trabajo.
So that the Cathedral of Caracas is an architectural jewel, which treasures, great works of art, has religious representations, images of saints, stained glass, oil paintings adorn their ceilings and other objects that are very old that are guarded in it, behind the altar we find the sacristy an elegant enclosure where the public is not allowed to enter, being the seat of the archbishop of Caracas.
De manera que la Catedral de Caracas es una joya arquitectónica, que atesora, grandes obras de arte, cuenta con representaciones religiosas, imágenes de santos, vitrales, pinturas de oleo adornan sus techos y otros objetos que son muy antiguos que se encuentran resguardados en ella, detrás del altar nos encontramos con El sacrista un recinto elegante donde no se permite la entrada al público, siendo la sede del arzobispo de Caracas.
Another important thing to highlight are the large gates that protect the Cathedral made of mahogany, which end in fine finishes and reliefs, we also find the old confessionals that were used by parishioners to atone for their sins and also carved in mahogany. The façade of the church was commissioned to Francisco de Meneses in 1771, highlighting its baroque style, on its left side stands out the tower of the Cathedral divided into two concessions, one occupies the bell tower and the other, the clock a very valuable relic dating from 1888 and on top of the tower we find a bronze sculpture that personifies "Faith", this work carved by Juan Pedro Lopez.
Otra cosa importante que debemos resaltar los grandes portones, que resguardan la Catedral realizados en caoba, que terminan en finos acabados y con relieves, también encontramos los antiguos confesionarios que eran utilizados por los feligreses para expiar sus culpas e igualmente tallados en caoba. La fachada de la Iglesia, fue encomendada a Francisco de Meneses en 1771, resaltando su estilo barroco, en su lado izquierdo se destaca La torre de la Catedral dividida en dos cesiones, una ocupa el campanario y la otra, el reloj una reliquia muy valiosa que data de 1888 y encima de la torre nos encontramos con una escultura de bronce que personifica “La fe”, esta obra labrada por Juan Pedro López.
