My mom's priority these days has been for us to remain healthy and sound, so she likes to get healthy natural stuffs for us to eat even if some of us don't like it...you just have to eat it, or not eat!
Well this new leaf known as "Hospital is too far" has recently been introduced to my family by my mom.
Yes, "hospital is too far!" Why is it called that?
Nigerians nicknamed it that as a way to remember that the leaf keeps you away from the hospital, that is, it is a very healthy stuff, helping to boost the immune system.
Yes, what is the real name of the leaf, I had to ask Google that, and here's what I found:

Well as you see from my above search result, you already know what it is called scientifically (Jathropha tanjorensis) and if you noticed it is said to be used as a natural medicine and for many recipes in Nigerian homes.
Recipes! Yes, speaking of recipes, mom has been using this leaves for almost everything she cooks in the house. Well, it's not a thing of choice, you have to pretend to enjoy it hehe.
So I'm getting to the main point of today's post. I made a rice recipe using this spectacular leaves and I'll share the recipe now.
So I made curry rice and added the Jathropa to it.
Here's a list of all the ingredients I used:
- 3 cups of rice
- 1 cooking spoon vegetable oil
- 2 small onions
- 1 tablespoon dry pepper
- 2 fresh pepper
- Salt to taste
- A small piece of ginger
- Curry leave to taste
- Bunch of Hospital is too far (Jathropha tanjorensis)
So I'll go ahead to share how I made the rice:
Procedure
First I had to make preparations by slicing the onions, and the leaves, I also grind the ginger and fresh pepper together.
So next thing I did was wash my rice and set it aside. Then I put a pot to heat, added the oil to and then onions to sautee
Next I added the grinded ginger/f.pepper to it. Then I added the dried pepper
At this point I stirred it well and then added the curry leaves to the mixture and 3 cups of water
Then I added the rice and stirred it in the mixture and covered properly to let it cook
I was checking it to see if the water on it is dried and the rice is soft enough
After confirming it soft and the water dried I added the leaves to it
After a few seconds of stirring in the rice I put it down and it was ready to be served
Incorporating "Hospital is too far" (Jatropha tanjorensis) into daily meals is a brilliant way to boost immunity naturally. This leafy plant, with its medicinal benefits, has become a staple in my household, thanks to my mom’s dedication to keeping us healthy. Although it might take some getting used to, it’s reassuring to know that we’re adding such a valuable ingredient to our diet.
This curry rice recipe is one way to make the most of Jatropha tanjorensis while keeping the flavors delicious and satisfying. Thank you all for your time here 🤗
