So, I watched that lengthy SmackDown live segment where The Rock and Roman Reigns had a moment.
It was indeed something else, and I have some ideas to share concerning it:
What I found most significant about that segment was the relationship between The Rock and Roman Reigns. There were moments filled with tension, frustration and need for recognition from the side of Roman Reigns.
He actually seemed like he yearned for approval from The Rock himself, then relief showed on his face after receiving it at last.
That hug meant much more to him than just words.
However, here’s the thing; I am not certain if this entire story line is going in the right direction.
Yes, it’s interesting seeing both Roman and The Rock team up, but there’s always something nagging at me below the surface.
Hints about a possible betrayal or turn by The Rock got me thinking.
Is Roman really safe with him near?
Besides, there is another dynamic in which Roman acts like a little brother. This was the part I found emotional. It’s as though he has been overshadowed by The Rock’s comeback and it’s been haunting him from inside.
His frustration is justified too. He had worked so hard to make himself the head of the Tribal Chief and now he thinks that he is being marginalized.
Despite my doubts, I cannot be unexcited about where this storyline is heading. The build for WrestleMania 40 looks like it will be epic with the possibility of bloodline rules match.
The Rock and Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins? Count me in!
Ultimately, I had mixed feelings after watching this SmackDown segment. On one hand, I am glad to see Roman sharing the spotlight with The Rock but on the other hand, I worry what happens next for them.
Only time will tell how this all plays out but one thing for sure – I’ll be tuning in every week to see how the drama unfolds.
