El buceo oceánico es un deporte relativamente seguro. Es decir, siempre que sigas las reglas escritas, jamás estará usted en peligro. Pero tal premisa tiene sus excepciones, cuando usted le agrega ingredientes que pueden comprometer la seguridad. Uno de ellos, por supuesto, es el buceo con tiburones. No solo tiene que agregar a su ocupado cerebro el monitoreo de los equipos y el tiempo, sino que además, debe estar pendiente de que un animal majestuoso como éste no lo confunda a usted con un canapé marino.
Bromas aparte, siempre tuve la curiosidad por practicar éste deporte. Cuando era chico practiqué la natación y todas las cosas relativas al mar me fascinaban, aupado por la lectura del clásico "Veinte mil leguas de viaje submarino" cuya autoría corresponde a Julio Verne, un tipo con una gran imaginación. Pero lo costoso de la práctica del submarinismo, nos mantuvo más cerca del buceo a pulmón, en la costa del extenso Mar Caribe que serpentea por el norte de Venezuela. Por cierto, un litoral mágico para practicar éste deporte.

Ocean diving is a relatively safe sport. That is, as long as you follow the written rules, you will never be in danger. But such a premise has its exceptions, when you add ingredients that can compromise safety. One of them, of course, is shark diving. Not only do you have to add to your busy brain the monitoring of equipment and time, but you also have to make sure that a majestic animal like this one doesn't mistake you for a marine canapé.
Joking aside, I was always curious to practice this sport. When I was a child I practiced swimming and all the things related to the sea fascinated me, spurred by reading the classic “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” whose authorship corresponds to Jules Verne, a guy with a great imagination. But the cost of scuba diving kept us closer to free diving, on the coast of the vast Caribbean Sea that snakes through the north of Venezuela. By the way, a magical coastline to practice this sport.
Hemos disfrutado del mar demasiadas veces. Primero porque nuestro padre acostumbraba acampar junto con toda la familia, en las playas del Parque Nacional Morrocoy n(cuando se permitía, hoy día es restringido), luego cuando me convertí en papá, hacíamos algo parecido, aprovechando amistades que tienen apartamentos a orillas del mar. En muchos de esos viajes practicamos snorkel con nuestros hijos, pero uno de ellos - @genyus - fue el que cimentó recuerdos de aquellas jornadas maravillosas, haciendo pulmón y mirando arrecifes con peces.

We have enjoyed the sea too many times. First because our father used to camp with the whole family on the beaches of Morrocoy National Park (when it was allowed, today it is restricted), then when I became a dad, we did something similar, taking advantage of friends who have apartments by the sea. In many of those trips we snorkeled with our children, but one of them - @genyus - was the one who cemented memories of those wonderful days, lunging and watching reefs with fish.
Y, tal vez por esos recuerdos, él alimentó la misma curiosidad por mirar debajo del agua. El hecho de haber emigrado y siendo la primera vez en cuatro años que él toma vacaciones, contrató a una empresa de buceo en Jupiter, FL, para salir a la costa de la península estadounidense arriesgar el pellejo en tan ¿atractiva? actividad. Debo decir que, quizás acompañado por él, me atrevería a imitarlo. Solo o con personas que no conozco, ni loco. And, perhaps because of those memories, he nurtured the same curiosity to look underwater.
