Si eres de los que en algún momento has pensado que quizás naciste en la época equivocada, pues déjame darte la bienvenida a esa sensación que muchos amantes de la música también hemos experimentado, ya sea por uno o varios artistas musicales que deseamos poder disfrutar de manera más cercana a la que hoy solo podríamos tener frente a un teléfono, una computadora o escucharlo a través de la radio. En ocasiones, suele ser gracioso y frustrante añorar un tiempo en el que la buena música ya estaba presente mientras nosotros todavía no habíamos nacido.
If you are one of those who at some point have thought that maybe you were born in the wrong era, then let me welcome you to that feeling that many music lovers have also experienced, either for one or more musical artists that we wish we could enjoy in a way closer to what today we could only have in front of a phone, a computer or listen to it through the radio. Sometimes it is funny and frustrating to long for a time when good music was already present while we were not yet born.
Pero cuando hablamos de verdaderos clásicos de la música, esto no es un problema que nos prive de poder escucharlos y ficharlos como esos temas especiales que sencillamente no podemos olvidar ni dejar de escuchar, y por eso este Musical Monday le hace honor a la Billos Caracas Boys. Sin duda alguna, esto será un viaje con muchos recuerdos y excelente melodía, ya que se trata de un grupo que trascendió de una manera muy significativa en el mundo de la música. ¿Cómo fue que llegué a conocer este grupo? ¿Cuál fue el primer tema que escuché de ellos?
La Billos Caracas Boys era el grupo musical favorito de la familia, y sus canciones no faltaban en cualquier reunión o fiesta que se llevaban a cabo. Incluso había ciertas tardes en las que mi mamá y mis tíos se ponían a charlar o a jugar cartas, y casi que de manera automática la música también tomaba su protagonismo con la Billos en plan estelar. En este aspecto, estoy seguro que muchas familias se sienten aludidas a esta bonita experiencia en la que compartían momentos agradables al ritmo de la Billos.
But when we talk about true classics of music, this is not a problem that deprives us of being able to listen to them and record them as those special songs that we simply can not forget or stop listening to, and that is why this Musical Monday honors the Billos Caracas Boys. Undoubtedly, this will be a trip with many memories and excellent melody, since this is a group that transcended in a very significant way in the world of music. How did I get to know this group? What was the first song I heard of them?
The Billos Caracas Boys were the family's favorite musical group, and their songs were always present at any gathering or party. There were even certain afternoons when my mom and uncles would get together to chat or play cards, and almost automatically the music would also take center stage with the Billos in the spotlight. In this aspect, I am sure that many families feel alluded to this beautiful experience in which they shared pleasant moments to the rhythm of the Billos.
En mi caso, la manera en la que conocí y escuché a este grupo musical fue algo gracioso. ¿Por qué? Todo parte desde mi gusto por el béisbol. Como sabrán, algunos equipos famosos o reconocidos llegan a tener un lema, o una canción favorita que los representa, y en el caso de la Billos ellos sacaron una canción que apoyaba al equipo de los navegantes del Magallanes. “¡Magallanes será campeón!, ¡Magallanes será campeón!” Esa canción se escuchaba a todo volumen y más cuando ese equipo ganaba un partido contra su máximo rival, que son los Leones del Caracas. Claro, había un pequeño detalle y es que mi equipo favorito eran lo Leones y no el Magallanes, pero aún así yo reconozco que la canción en sí es buena, así que lo que puedo hacer es lamentarme y reconocer que la pegaron con ese tema.
In my case, the way I met and listened to this musical group was kind of funny. Why? It all starts from my love for baseball. As you may know, some famous or recognized teams come to have a motto, or a favorite song that represents them, and in the case of the Billos they came out with a song that supported the Magallanes Navigators team. "Magellan will be champion, Magellan will be champion!" That song was heard at full volume and more when that team won a game against their biggest rival, which are the Leones del Caracas. Of course, there was a small detail and that is that my favorite team was the Leones and not the Magallanes, but even so I recognize that the song itself is good, so what I can do is regret and recognize that they hit it with that song.
Ya fuera del ámbito deportivo, muchos temas llegan a ser emblemáticos por su letra, carisma y composición a la hora de escucharlos. Uno de mis temas favoritos es “Mosaico 55”, pues a mí parecer lograron combinar a excelentes compositores bajo una especie de popurrí que se hace contagioso para bailar y disfrutar. Incluso hoy en día colocar ese tema en plena fiesta es algo especial, dónde jóvenes y adultos compaginan de manera perfecta al ritmo de la Billos, logrando algo que pocos grupos musicales pueden alcanzar, unir a varias generaciones de esta forma tan única y que sencillamente no nos casaríamos de experimentar.
¿Alguna vez has pensado que una canción es demasiado corta para lo buena que es? Precisamente eso es lo que me pasa con la canción “La casa de Fernando”. No hay desperdicio en cada segundo que nos regala este maravilloso tema. Su letra refleja convivencia, amistad, ese cariño que nos une a un grupo de personas, trayendo recuerdos y nostalgias que afloran con total facilidad. Esto es uno de esos temas en los que cantas y bailas a la vez, con un ritmo que hasta para lo más inexpertos nos puede parecer muy cómodo y fácil de llevar.
Outside of sports, many songs become emblematic for their lyrics, charisma and composition when listening to them. One of my favorite songs is "Mosaico 55", because in my opinion they managed to combine excellent composers under a kind of potpourri that becomes contagious to dance and enjoy. Even today, placing this song in the middle of a party is something special, where young people and adults combine perfectly to the rhythm of the Billos, achieving something that few musical groups can achieve, uniting several generations in such a unique way and that we simply would not get married if we were to experience it.
Have you ever thought that a song is too short for how good it is? That's exactly what happens to me with the song "La casa de Fernando". There is no waste in every second that this wonderful song gives us. Its lyrics reflect coexistence, friendship, that affection that unites us to a group of people, bringing memories and nostalgia that come to the surface with total ease. This is one of those songs in which you sing and dance at the same time, with a rhythm that even for the most inexperienced can seem very comfortable and easy to carry.
Como lo mencioné al principio, me habría gustado estar en la época en la que la Billos Caracas Boys estaba en la flor de sus éxitos, pero mi único consuelo es que muchos de mis familiares si pudieron asistir a eventos en los que ellos estuvieron presentes. De hecho, en una ocasión una de mis primas se había ganado una entrada para un festival en donde ellos iban a tocar, pero ella rechazó la invitación por la idea de que “esas canciones eran para personas viejas “. Después de varios años, ella reconoció que aquello fue una de las peores decisiones que ha tomado en su vida y aún en sus cuentos y anécdotas no deja de reprochárselo.
Como ven, existen muchas razones para hoy iniciar este Musical Monday de manera clásica y con traje de etiqueta al son de la Billos Caracas Boys. Con un buen ritmo cargado de recuerdos y añoranzas, a través de esta publicación también le damos las gracias a esas maravillosas personas que con su talento y dedicación dieron vida a un grupo musical que sigue vigente en el mundo de la música y en los corazones de muchísimas personas que hoy siguen disfrutando de canciones llenas de amor, calidad y profundos sentimientos.
As I mentioned at the beginning, I would have liked to have been around when the Billos Caracas Boys were in the prime of their success, but my only consolation is that many of my relatives were able to attend events where they were present. In fact, on one occasion one of my cousins had won a ticket to a festival where they were going to play, but she turned down the invitation because of the idea that "those songs were for old people". After several years, she recognized that it was one of the worst decisions she had ever made in her life and even in her stories and anecdotes she never ceases to reproach herself for it.
As you can see, there are many reasons to start today's Musical Monday in a classic way and in a formal dress to the sound of the Billos Caracas Boys. With a good rhythm full of memories and nostalgia, through this publication we also thank those wonderful people who with their talent and dedication gave life to a musical group that is still alive in the world of music and in the hearts of many people who today continue to enjoy songs full of love, quality and deep feelings.
