Xiaomei and the Flame Dragon’s Fist was released on the Nintendo Switch in 2022, in English, and now is available for the Sega Genesis. Well, Sega Mega Drive but if you have the means to play import games on your console, you can play this retro styled kung-fu game. Completionists, or collectors, can expect a case and the cartridge when importing this action fighting game.
Precursor to Brawlers
Brawlers, to me, are in the style of Double Dragon, Final Fight, and Streets of Rage. Action fighting games are titles like Karateka, Kung-Fu, China Warrior, etc. The difference being an action fighting game restricts you to one plain to play on. Brawlers allow you to avoid hits by moving up and down the screen.
Watching the video, I am reminded more of a cross between Kung-Fu and China Warrior. Xiaomei and the Flame Dragon’s Fist looks interesting, but I do not see importing this myself. I am just not that big a fan of this genre.
You can jump, punch, kick and launch special attacks on your enemies as they come onto the screen. The enemy forces are great in power because they have even tamed animals such as snake to attack you. How dastardly.
What Fans Can Expect
The Nintendo Switch version of Xiaomei and the Flame Dragon’s Fist features multiple difficulty options, tons of enemies on screen, and more. I can only assume the Genesis/Mega Drive port has those features.
What you can expect to have been removed include the gallery mode, and potentially a drop in resolution. I say potentially because I am not sure if the Switch version was emulated or was a native port. Also, I do not see anything saying the Genesis/Mega Drive version will have English as an option. I would hope so but the footage I have seen of the 16-Bit port has everything in Chinese.
