It's no secret that I love movies or series that refer to an ancient era; I usually don't watch much romantic content, but when I do I prefer that they are not stories based in the present day. For that reason, Bridgerton, is among my favorite Netflix series, I love the books, I love the characters and the story, and every chapter takes a sigh out of me. I had already given you my opinion of the first season, and now I come to comment on the second season, my favorite so far✨
No es un secreto de que me encantan las películas o series referentes a una época antigua; normalmente no veo mucho contenido romántico, pero cuando lo hago prefiero que no sean historias basadas en la actualidad. Por esa razón, Bridgerton, está entre mis series favoritas de Netflix, amo los libros, amo los personajes y la historia, y cada capítulo me saca un suspiro. Ya les había dado mi opinión de la primera temporada, y ahora vengo a comentar la segunda temporada, mi preferida hasta ahora✨
After a successful first season, Netflix continued the story of the Bridgerton family, eight siblings who belong to the high society of 19th century London. In the first part we met Daphne, who despite getting entangled in an arranged marriage, found love in her husband; now, the second part is based on the second book of Julia Quinn's literary saga, “The Viscount Who Loved Me”, which tells the love story of Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest brother of the family, who after a long period of debauchery and romances with opera singers, finally decides to “settle down”, and is in search of the perfect woman, submissive and intelligent, who becomes the new viscountess... but things don't always work out the way we want them to.
Después de una exitosa primera temporada, Netflix continuó la historia de la familia Bridgerton, ocho hermanos que pertenecen a la alta sociedad de Londres del siglo XIX. En la primera parte conocimos a Daphne, quien a pesar de enredarse en un matrimonio arreglado, encontró el amor en su esposo; ahora, la segunda parte se basa en el segundo libro de la saga literaria de Julia Quinn, "El Vizconde que me amó", donde se narra la historia de amor de Anthony Bridgerton, el hermano mayor de la familia, quién después de llevar una larga temporada en el libertinaje y romances con cantantes de ópera, finalmente decide “sentar cabeza”, y está en búsqueda de la mujer perfecta, sumisa e inteligente, que se convierta en la nueva vizcondesa… pero las cosas no siempre salen como nosotros queremos.
In the previous story we saw the friends to lovers, and here we have another cliché that many loves: the enemies to lovers🩷 Two people who start out as enemies, hating to breathe the same air as each other, but in several small steps that hatred turns into love. Such was the story of Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma. Both are older siblings, who live to support their younger siblings. Stubborn, smart, and controlling. Honestly, they are kindred spirits.
Of the eight books in the saga, this was my favorite, so I had high expectations with this season, and although it was weak in specific parts that were important in the narrative, I was satisfied with what Netflix offered us. It's so much fun to see the evolution of their love, because their personalities clash from the first instant, and yet there is no other person who can understand them like they do with each other. It was such a strong connection that made them fear, and deny the feelings that existed in each other.
We get to know in depth the scars they both hide, reasons why they are closed to accepting true love, being vulnerable, and it's not only because of the fear of getting hurt themselves, but their biggest fear is hurting the other🥺 It was such a pure love, that even though it develops slowly, you can't help but love both characters.
En la historia anterior vimos un friends to lovers, y aquí tenemos otro cliché que muchos aman: el enemies to lovers🩷 Dos personas que comienzan como enemigos, odiando respirar el mismo aire que el otro, pero en varios pequeños pasos ese odio se convierte en amor. Así fue la historia de Anthony Bridgerton y Kate Sharma. Ambos son hermanos mayores, que viven para apoyar a sus hermanos menores. Testarudos, inteligentes, y controladores. Sinceramente, son almas gemelas.
De los ocho libros de la saga, este fue mi preferido, así que tenía altas expectativas con esta temporada, y aunque estuvo floja en partes concretas que eran importantes en la narrativa, me quedo satisfecha con lo que Netflix nos ofreció. Es muy divertido ver la evolución de su amor, porque sus personalidades chocan desde el primer instante, y, sin embargo, no existe otra persona que pueda comprenderlos como ellos lo hacen con el otro. Fue una conexión tan fuerte que les hizo temer, y negar los sentimientos que existían en cada uno.
Conocemos en profundidad las cicatrices que ambos esconden, razones por las que se cierran a aceptar el verdadero amor, ser vulnerables, y no es solo por el temor de salir heridos ellos, sino que su mayor miedo es herir al otro🥺 Fue un amor tan puro, que a pesar de que se desarrolla lentamente, no puedes evitar querer a ambos personajes.
A significant detail of this era is the belief that the main goal of a woman is early marriage, and so Kate, only 26 years old, is considered an “old maid”. And she believes it, that it is too late for her to find love, and it is more important to marry off her younger sister. But the wise Lady Danbury (my favorite character), mentions to her that “it's sad, that she says she wants to be alone at 26”, explaining to Kate that she should live, allow herself to feel.
“Society rejects a woman without a husband, leaving her at the edge of everything.” But it is society's problem, not the woman's. The radical standards of the time were difficult for proper female development, it is present not only in Kate, but also in the character of Eloise Bridgerton, the Featherington women, and even Edwina Sharma herself, Kate's younger sister.
All these women are under constant pressure, society demands them, their families demand them, and they demand themselves. I loved that this social problem had a protagonist role throughout the series, and that each of these characters found a way to empower themselves, because the conflict does not lie in these traditional ideas, but in the fact that they forced and belittled any woman who did something different from the norm.
Un detalle significante de esta época es la creencia de que la principal meta de una mujer es el matrimonio a temprana edad, y así es como Kate, de tan solo 26 años, es considerada una “solterona”. Y ella se lo cree, de que ya es tarde para ella encontrar el amor y es más importante casar a su hermana menor. Pero la sabia Lady Danbury (mi personaje favorito), le menciona que “es triste, que diga que quiera estar sola con 26 años”, explicándole a Kate que ella debe vivir, permitirse sentir.
“La sociedad rechaza a una mujer sin esposo dejándola a la orilla de todo”. Pero es problema de la sociedad, no de la mujer. Los estándares radicales de la época eran difíciles para el adecuado desarrollo femenino, está presente no solo en Kate, sino también en el personaje de Eloise Bridgerton, las mujeres Featherington, e incluso la misma Edwina Sharma, hermana menor de Kate.
Todas estas mujeres están bajo una constante presión, la sociedad les exigen, sus familias les exigen, y ellas se exigen a sí mismas. Me encantó que esa problemática social tuviera protagonismo en toda la serie, y que cada uno de esos personajes encontró su manera de empoderarse, porque el conflicto no radica en esas ideas tradicionales, sino en que obligaban y menospreciaban a cualquier mujer que hiciera algo diferente a la norma.
A slightly confusing detail in the series is that there are secondary stories to the main character, and they are significant to the plot, so you have to keep your attention on all the characters, their last names, their positions, their lives, because in the end they all connect. However, the direction of the series does a good job here, they don't downplay the importance of the main characters, but they tell you that the other characters are not an ornament either.
For example, there are two very important side stories: Eloise Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. We start with Eloise being introduced in society, even though she has the desire not to belong to the London elite; since the first season she has made it very clear that she does not want a similar path to her older sister, she wants to be something more than just someone's wife, and here we see how her cunning and attraction to get into complicated situations, lead her to pursue this desire. My only problem with Eloise is that she does not measure the consequence of her actions, and is not aware of the privileges she has over others, for that reason, in this season she has several stumbles and hopefully that will help her to mature.
Un detalle un poco confuso en la serie es que se desarrollan historias secundarias a la protagonista, y son significantes para la trama, entonces debes mantener la atención a todos los personajes, sus apellidos, sus posiciones, sus vidas, porque al final todos se conectan. Sin embargo, la dirección de la serie realiza un buen trabajo aquí, no le restan importancia a los protagonistas, pero te indican que los otros personajes tampoco son un adorno.
Por ejemplo, hay dos historias secundarias muy importantes: Eloise Bridgerton y Penélope Featherington. Iniciamos con Eloise siendo presentada en sociedad, aun cuando tiene el deseo de no pertenecer a la élite londinense; desde la primera temporada ella ha dejado muy claro no querer un camino similar a su hermana mayor, desea ser algo más que solo la esposa de alguien, y aquí vemos como su astucia y atracción a meterse en situaciones complicadas, la guían a perseguir este deseo. Mi único problema con Eloise es que no mide la consecuencia de sus actos, y no es consciente de los privilegios que tiene por encima de los demás, por esa razón, en esta temporada tiene varios tropiezos y esperemos que eso la ayude a madurar.
On the other hand, we have Penelope Featherington. Unlike her best friend Eloise, she does want to find love and marry the man of her dreams, but her complexes make it difficult for her to carry out this desire. In the previous season we learned that she plays a very important role in the plot, from the darkness she knows how to pull the strings of the story, although this great secret will cost her more than she imagined.
Penelope is a woman who if she had a level of confidence to match her intelligence, could conquer all of London; and honestly, we know she's an interesting character, and we're sick of always seeing her in the background, so I can't wait for the upcoming season three premiere to see her as the lead, because if there's anyone who knows how to give a story, it's Penelope Featherington.
Por otro lado, tenemos a Penélope Featherington. Al contrario de su mejor amiga Eloise, ella sí desea encontrar el amor y casarse con el hombre de sus sueños, pero sus complejos le dificultan llevar a cabo este deseo. En la temporada anterior nos enteramos de que ella cumple un papel muy importante en la trama, desde la oscuridad sabe como manejar los hilos de la historia, aunque este gran secreto le costará más de lo que imaginó.
Penélope es una mujer que si tuviera un nivel de confianza a la par con su inteligencia, podría conquistar todo Londres; y sinceramente, sabemos que es un personaje interesante y estamos hartos de verla siempre en el fondo, por lo tanto, no puedo esperar para el próximo estreno de la tercera temporada y verla como protagonista, porque si hay alguien que sabe dar una historia es Penélope Featherington.
The last detail I would like to comment on is the set design of the series, I really love everything about it, the exaggerated hairstyles, the costumes, the locations, all those 19th century English vibes. I'm not a historian, I don't know if the production got it right, or they made serious temporal errors, I just know that I love what I see. Generally, period stories tend to be opaque, giving it that old-timey feel, but I'm pretty sure that in the context where these events take place it was a colorful and vibrant moment in history, just as Netflix presents it to us.
Or, maybe, I just love some clichés, like the one about a girl needing to wear an incredibly beautiful and shiny dress to tell the world: “here I am, watch me”
Likewise, the music in Bridgerton has always caught my attention, they use famous songs in the present to make an instrumental cover, it may not be a nice option for everyone, but keep in mind that this series is not made to present the reality of the historical moment, it is a novel, it is made to entertain, so their music is a wise choice; also, they know how to use it, the songs they choose at the right time connect with the emotion of the moment and helps you to be in the scene.
El último detalle que me gustaría comentar es la escenografía de la serie, realmente amo todo lo relacionado con esto, los peinados exagerados, los vestuarios, los lugares, todas esas vibras inglesas del siglo XIX. No soy historiadora, no sé si la producción acertó o cometieron graves errores temporales, solo sé que me encanta lo que veo. Generalmente, las historias de época tienden a ser opacas, dándole esa sensación de antiguo, pero estoy casi segura que en el contexto donde transcurren estos hechos fue un momento en la historia colorido y vibrante, tal como nos lo presenta Netflix.
O, quizás, solo me encantan algunos clichés, como ese de que una chica necesite usar un vestido increíblemente hermoso y brillante para decirle al mundo: "aquí estoy, obsérvame".
Así mismo, la música en Bridgerton siempre ha llamado mi atención, ellos utilizan canciones famosas en la actualidad para realizar un cover en instrumental, puede que sea una opción no agradable para todos, pero hay que tener en cuenta que esta serie no está hecha para presentar la realidad del momento histórico, es una novela, está hecha para entretener, así que su música es una opción acertada; además, saben como usarla, las canciones que escogen en los momentos precisos conectan con la emoción del momento y te ayuda a estar en la escena.
And that's all for this occasion, my beautiful people!✨ Bridgerton is a series that has me captivated, I know it's not for everyone's taste, but I think if you like romance you should give it a chance. It's long chapters, at times it does get a little heavy, but that might be the time to get a glass of water, something to eat and come back.
The third season is almost here, divided in two parts (seriously, Netflix, why do you do that?), the first one will arrive on May 16, while the second part will be available on June 13. As I mentioned, this will be Penelope's story with the Bridgertons' third brother, Colin, and if they narrate the events faithfully to their corresponding book, then it will be an entanglement that will steal many a sigh from us.

¡Y eso ha sido todo por esta ocasión, mi gente linda!✨ Bridgerton es una serie que me tiene cautivada, sé que no es para el gusto de todos, pero creo que si te gusta el romance deberías darle una oportunidad. Son capítulos largos, en momentos sí se hace un poco pesada, pero ese podría ser el momento para buscar un vaso de agua, algo para comer y volver.
La tercera temporada ya está cerca, dividida en dos partes (en serio, Netflix, ¿por qué haces eso?), la primera llegará el 16 de Mayo, mientras que la segunda parte estará disponible el 13 de Junio. Como mencioné, esta será la historia de Penélope con el tercer hermano de los Bridgerton, Colin, y si narran los hechos fielmente a su libro correspondiente, entonces será un enredo que nos robará muchos suspiros.
