The world is full of crisis and marriages have their own share, for this reason, just like we need heros to save the world, we also need heros to save some marriages but not all heros wear capes .
I had my own chance to be a superhero and save my friend’s marriage on this particular day. My dear friend who happens to be very adamant to all my pleadings and advice to stop him from flirting even in his marriage would have had the most dramatic day in his marriage since he had decided not to listen to me on this matter despite our years of friendship.
We were at this particular event with some of our friends and he came with his wife too. While we were having a nice time, chatting, eating and drinking, the least expected person showed up, it was my friend’s side chick. what a coincidence and how did she get here ?
Well, it’s happened that her friend is also a friend to the host of the event. I sighted her quite late as she was already at our table. I quickly stood up and gave her a hug, introduced her as my friend and gave her a sit, my friend gave her an eye signal to let her know the lady seating beside him was his wife. He did that to calm her down and to avoid creating a scene ( mind you she’s aware he’s married).
I and my friend ate and drank with our hearts in our mouths until we were done and ready to leave. I did that and told a lie on his behalf not because I am in support of him cheating in his marriage but I didn’t want what would have happened at that moment to ruin his years of marriage which could lead to separation and traumatize the kids.
After that very sweet event and the lie I told , I felt bad because I had lied to everyone at the table and his wife too who I imagined myself in her shoes. I couldn’t bring myself to reveal the lie because of how his wife held me in high esteem.
If I am faced with a similar situation and I am to make a choice again, I won’t tell a lie because I believe he should have learnt and another lie will hunt my conscience .
Although I told a good lie to save my friends’s marriage, lies in general do more harm than good.
