Minimalist walk between shapes.

Being able to see the details on a walk often involves trying to interpret what I see when the explanation is not at first sight.

These were the days before Carnival and the decorations were already visible in the streets, especially in the street most frequented by tourists, Calle Larios, where there are many shops and where there is always a party on certain occasions.

Close to the Plaza Constitución is one of the galleries I visit regularly and I knew there was a new exhibition, but only one, but as soon as I walked in I was in for a surprise.

Sometimes the surprises are a bit strange, I came across works made with wires. I don't think I had ever seen anything like it. The art exhibition was called Atrapa vientos by the artist Alejandro Gorafe.

The shapes were very peculiar and all the works were either against a wall or suspended. I don't really know if they would catch wind, but I had to be careful with some of them or they would catch my eye and I didn't want to lose an eye. Just kidding, I don't think that would happen.

Of all these objects only two caught my attention, the one with the red wall behind and the one right in front, both seemed to look like insects or birds, I still can't decide, but depending on the place where I was placed they were maybe shaped like bees. What do you think?

It's not that the exhibition disappointed me, or maybe it did a little, but I prefer to think that there is art for all tastes and colours. But that wasn't my colour. I'll take those strange works anyway.

Continuing my walk, I head down Calle Chinitas, a street full of businesses, where there used to be an art gallery, but many of the places were under renovation.

After crossing some narrow streets and through a hiding place I find, I arrive at the Plaza del Obispo, where I find the restaurants there and the beautiful cathedral.

The fountain is always beautiful and many people want to take pictures with it, especially tourists. The cathedral at that time of the evening was lit differently, but it is always beautiful and when I turn around I see a wonderful building, which when I arrived in the city was the Episcopal museum. Today there is a special place for the Unicaja foundation to hold art exhibitions.

I say goodbye to the cathedral, which, at any angle, is very photogenic.

The afternoon was beautiful for walking, strolling the streets of the city and enjoying the architecture, the public spaces and of course looking for art and more art, which is something I love to do.

I made my way towards the customs palace, I had seen a sign that told me there was something new to see. You see I'm always on the hunt for what's new in the ever-changing city. The temporary exhibitions change every three months and they are announced in this specific place.

The interior of the building is always wonderful, with that beautiful marble water fountain that I love.

The temporary art exhibition room had been set up in just one corner, because they were still dismantling the previous one. But when I entered I really didn't know what to think.

    20250211_184236.jpg

The art exhibition is called ‘Las niñas de Royo’ and its author is the artist Hodei Herreros Rodrígiez. It is part of a programme of art and culture initiatives and will be open until the 30th of this month.

I looked around me and all I could see were figures in a terracotta colour, figures, many of them geometric, and I tried to decipher what they were or what they wanted to express. As well as trying to relate them to the name of the exhibition.

This work, for example, looked like an obelisk, everyone can see something different. It seemed to have little feet and little arms with little hands. It was really strange.

    20250211_184247.jpg20250211_184302.jpg

Here I clearly saw a face and I tried to look at it from both sides, it looks like an angry person.

    20250211_184317.jpg20250211_184312.jpg

The works had no title, none of them, no explanation. The exhibition was minimalist even in the explanation. I had never come across something like this on a walk before, but there is always a first time. So I just looked and tried to see shapes, as if it were a test. What do you see here?

    20250211_184343.jpg

In this case I could tell it was sign language, but I wondered what it had to do with the rest.

    20250211_184353.jpg

And underneath the hands there was this play. Is it a play? I often wondered about that.

    20250211_184419.jpg

    20250211_184450.jpg

In one corner of the room I saw several small objects, some jars on one side and parts of the human body on the other plus some strings hanging here and there. Surely there must have been some meaning... surely.

I approached each of the pieces for a closer look. Faces, feet, hands, ropes, jugs... what do you think?

    20250211_184522.jpg

This piece reminded me of when I went to school and many girls practiced rhythmic gymnastics, but these were not made of wire.

    20250211_184607.jpg20250211_184619.jpg20250211_184607.jpg

    20250211_184549.jpg

Then I came to this piece that was in the centre of the room, and at first I didn't know what it was until my companion told me... I think it's a water fountain. And actually looking at it from the front it looked like one. A layered water fountain, perhaps. I was trying to decipher everything I saw.

    20250211_184632.jpg

The room looked quite minimalist... too much.

    20250211_184642.jpg

More faces, here they are clearly seen, in this there was no confusion.

    20250211_184705.jpg20250211_184651.jpg20250211_184710.jpg

And then on one wall I found a bow, but there was no arrow. I wonder if it was a bow or more faces. The display looked like a mixture of minimalism and abstract. It puzzled me a bit.

    20250211_184722.jpg

When I got out of there I wondered what it was that I saw, everything I saw, but the important thing is that I had a good time seeing mysterious things that I think only the artist understands.

    20250211_185345.jpg

The posters announced the carnival and the evening was falling. Can you see the birds flying? Actually the photograph was for them.

    20250211_185350.jpg

I always like to look at the sky, it draws wonderful things like these palm trees so high that it wants to touch the clouds or maybe reach outer space.

    20250211_190943.jpg

Nothing better than ending a strange, mysterious and minimalist walk with a delicious and hot coffee.

Thank you very much for joining me on this walk, I send you all a big hello. See you soon.
