They were given some reason. But the real reason seems to be that there is a lithium mine just waiting to happen there.
Yes, the elite, those mother WEFers will go this far. They will use any disaster to their advantage. Even create the disaster.
Most people would not think of "hitting a man while he is down". Most people think of helping when they see destruction / catastrophe.
But, these mother WEFers want the lithium because they see a future of electric cars. Electric cars that they control, but the plebs think they own.
Although these elite have a lot of cunning, they are not smart. So much will turn against them for this play. Even the universe will turn against them.

The mother WEFers, would create/steer a hurricane to wipe out a section of America so that they could get access to land where they will build a lithium mine.
These mother WEFers will not think twice about creating/pushing for a nuclear war, as long as they will survive from it.
These Horrible Elitist Yahoos think that lithium will be big in the future. T.H.E.Y. are planning to make it big. T.H.E.Y. are pushing the electrification of vehicles. So, T.H.E.Y. are the cause and the effect, and T.H.E.Y. think they can make money off of it.
So, T.H.E.Y. are getting a lithium mine in North Carolina.
Li-Ion powered electric vehicles are not the future
Like i said, those Elitist Yahoos are not very smart. LiIon batteries are not the future. They will soon be old, unused tech.
There is nothing good about a Lithium Ion battery that will endear engineers to use it after something better comes along. And something better is coming.
The rare earths, nickel and cobalt, as well as lithium are all difficult and polluting to mine. It is sorta fine for small consumer electronics, that need small and light power supplies, but it is not good for large applications like vehicles and community power storage.
LiIon batteries are self combusting destructive devices in their best state. It is just a matter of time.
So, all those annoying Elitist Yahoos trying to force everyone/everything into Li-Ion future, are going to fail.
The future is different
There will probably be electric cars… maybe. If you consider flying vehicles that use electro-gravitics as an electric vehicle.
And they won't be using batteries for power. There are many power producing things that are coming out into the open. Many are almost free-energy devices. Things like magnet motors. They exist, they just have to be engineered to provide power.
Instead of batteries, most devices will just have a little power plant inside them. One that is FAR SAFER than Li-Ion batteries we currently use.
The lithium mine in North Carolina will be closed before it even gets open.
And so, T.H.E.Y. will go down in history as horribly evil.
"Remember North Carolina" will be a battle cry against these mother WEFers. T.H.E.Y. wiped out a city to get something that was shortly not needed. People will not forgive them. T.H.E.Y will be hunted to the ends of the earth.
And yes, T.H.E.Y. really did such horrible evil and destructive things for power and money.
T.H.E.Y. believed that all of us could be controlled by putting kill switches (smart meters) on all of our houses. T.H.E.Y. will find that doesn't work. Those wishing for freedom will find a way around their machinations.
Electric powered vehicles will be common in the future, but the plan for everyone to "rent" a Li-Ion powered vehicle has run its course.
