When Not To Combine Cards?
Combining cards in Splinterlands is a way to level up and make your cards more powerful. It opens up additional stats and new abilities that you will need in battles. It is a sure fire way to win. But there are times that you will opt to NOT combine cards due to certain reasons. That is what we are going to discuss in this post:
Reasons Why It Is Best Not To Combine Cards
ForceField Problems
Forcefield reduces damage received to 1 when the attack is 5 and above. That is why some cards are better of at 4 melee, magic or ranged attack to bring optimal damage to opponents. For example, Coastal Sentry.
Coastal Sentry will have 5 melee attack at Level 9. You can opt to stop at Level 8 to have only 4 melee attack. In this manner, when you face a Forcefield monster such as Mycelic Slipspawn or Djinn Oshannus, you can deal 4 instead of 1. Please do note that this is a personal preference and battle strategy. If you are not using Coastal against Forcefield monsters then it is better to be maxed out.
Useless Abilities
When leveling up monsters, there are times that it will only receive a new ability. If you think that this ability is useless or you wont be using it often, don't level it up. Going back to Coastal Sentry. At maxed level it will receive a new ability, Knock Out. This is useful when paired with monsters with Stun ability. But without such monsters, this is pretty useless.
Martyr
Martyr monsters give +1 boost on all stats to the adjacent allies when it dies. That is why some players opt to NOT level up monsters with this ability, so that it will die easily. Martyr cards such as Fungus Flinger and Venari Marksrat serve as sacrificial pawns in the battles.
Stats Reduction
Some cards receive new abilities but their stats reduced. For example, Fenmoor Haunt
Fenmoor lose 1 melee attack but receives Scavenge ability at maxed level. So in this case, if that melee attack reduction is a deal breaker for you or if you think that ability is not useful for you, do not combine another 100 cards for this card.
Closing
So before leveling up your monster, think of its synergies with other cards. If your strategy will not need the monster at maxed level or the card will have abilities you will not use, opt not to level up the card. I hope you find this post useful and see you again in the next post.
