Exmoor Amazingness: Valley of the Rocks

A little confession - I hate travel blogs, documentaries, or anything that might give away what a place is like. I'd rather have a vague idea and figure it out when I get there, so the experience feels new. So it was when we ended up in the Valley of the Rocks, Exmoor, which I didn't even know existed until a friend messaged that if we were staying in Linton, we might want to go for a walk there.

But first, a little confession - if you've just read my two posts on Bristol, I'm a bit behind - we actually went here before Bristol. And to add to the confusion, I haven't even written yet about my Land Rover arriving in Port, and if you follow us on Instagram @roving_tracks, you'll know that we're probably in Spain or Morrocco by now - hopefully!

Anyway, back to the Valley of the Rocks. The funny thing was, after a quick google, we realised we were on the North Walk path, as our accomodation was 'North Walk House', with a sea view, just above the quaint seaside town in Linton. All we had to do was walk down the path for about twenty minutes and voila - there we were. The way was a little scary if you had vertigo - poor Jamie was hugging the cliff whilst I pretended to throw him off. Wild goats didn't mind at all, and stood lopsided and horny on the hillside.

Some people have the most amazing houses. I mean, how does this even happen? Still, it would be dark most of the day, and cold.

The Bristol channel was a pale kind of blue and we could see Wales over the way. It was chilly, but atmospheric and stunning. I'm sure if it was Australia they would have made a guard rail to go all along here as if you wanted to, you could end your days with one step.

The views were just stupendous. I wish I'd had my good camera instead of my phone but I didn't expect to see such amazingness! We met a couple who every year park at the carpark at the VAlley of the Rocks, walk down to Linton, have lunch, catch the railway up the hill (which you can do) and back along the cliffs to the valley. A brilliant walk and I'd love to do it again sometime.

Can I say again I regret not getting my good camera? I do hope I find my way back here.

By the time we walked back to our accomodation, it was dark. Luckily there was enough light to see to NOT fall off the coast path.

And as if things couldn't get better, I'd made a huge lentil shepard's pie for dinner the day before so we didn't have to spend money eating out - thank goodness.

    With Love,
