The End of My Garden Season
Our garden is almost finished for the year, except for the herb garden and the pots. It’s a bittersweet season, but also a satisfying moment every year. This autumn, we had to remove the old garden beds because the wood was too worn out.
The original owner had built many small containers in the garden, but he didn’t use treated wood for most of them, so it started to break down little by little. After some heavy rains, the wood finally gave out. We decided to get rid of all of it this autumn. I had to transplant some of my plants like shiso, chives, parsley, mints, lavender, coriander, and more.
Once we took down all the old wooden beds from our garden, it felt incredibly refreshing, as the old energy had almost taken over our yard. Now, we have more functional garden beds. We also removed many of the previous owner’s handmade wooden benches, decorations, and other items. I don’t like to decorate my garden much. I prefer a simple garden because nature is already beautiful without man-made additions.
We got rid of some of our garbage through the city’s large waste collection service, and my husband burned the remaining wooden scraps for almost three nights. After seven o’clock, we’re allowed to burn yard waste in our garden. My husband loves working with fire, but I prefer to observe it from a distance. I enjoyed taking photos of the fire, though. Burning away the old energy felt incredibly refreshing.
We still have one or two more piles of old wood sitting in our garden, and I can’t wait to clear them. I’m looking forward to seeing an empty, clean garden soon. Next year, we’ll order soil from the garden center, and hopefully, we’ll have a better harvest than this year.

庭じまいの季節
我が家の今年の庭は、ハーブを除いてもうそろそろ終わりを迎えます。寂しい時期ではありますが、満足もしています。今年の秋は古くなった木製のプランターを撤去処分しなければなりませんでした。
元の持ち主の方が庭にたくさん小さなプランターを作ったようですが、どの木材もコーティングしていないものだったのでもともと傷んでいました。最終的には大雨でこれ以上補修不可能なダメージを受けました。そこで、今秋に処分することを予定していました。シソ、チャイブ、パセリ、ミント、ラベンダー、パクチーなどを別の場所に植え替え、準備しました。
古くなった木製のプランターをすべて撤去し終えたあとは、古いエネルギーが一掃されかなり気持ちがリフレッシュしました。すっきりした庭を見ると余裕があっていい感じです。これまで、元の持ち主が作ったであろうさまざまな庭のデコレーションを以前から少しずつ片付けてきました。私は庭を飾りつけるのは好みではありません。作り込まれた感じの庭よりも、シンプルで自然な感じにあふれた庭の方が好きです。
他のゴミ類は市の大型ごみの日に回収してもらい、撤去した木材は主人が夜間に燃やしました。期間限定で午後７時以降、庭で燃えるゴミを燃やして良いことになっています。主人は火を眺めるのが大好きだそうです。私は火を見るのが好きですが、そばに近づきすぎないように距離を保つことが必要です。火の写真を撮るのは好きなのですが…。古いエネルギーを燃やし終わったあとはとてつもなく爽快な気分になります。
あと１、２回分は燃やすゴミが残っています。早く燃やしてしまいたいです。すべて燃やし終わると、はれて何もないきれいな庭に戻ります。来年は、ガーデンセンターから土を購入して今年よりも多くの野菜を育てたいです。
