This is so interesting and I am so excited to share for you guys because it was Kartini Day in Indonesia. It's been a long time since I shared moments in this community. This time I hope you are interested in my story about Kartini Day with my son Darren and his friends. What is certain is that the event would be very exciting and so much fun!

April 21 is Kartini Day in Indonesia. I can tell you a little history about Kartini. Kartini's mother, that's what we call her. Who is this Kartini figure? Why should Kartini Day be celebrated?
When Indonesia was still in the colonial era, RA Kartini fought for the emancipation of women in Indonesia. She is an Indonesian hero who fought for gender equality so that women could get the same rights. This is what made her known as a figure of women's emancipation. RA Kartini's struggle was based on the existence of women who were often not appreciated. Women are only allowed to do the kitchen and children, without being given the opportunity to receive a proper education.
Kartini's thoughts about women's emancipation developed due to her correspondence with friends in the Netherlands. She also became interested in the way of thinking of European women, which she learned about through newspapers, magazines and the books she read.

Until then she started thinking about trying to advance women in Indonesia. In her mind, the position of native women was still far behind or had a fairly low social status. She also reads various feminist romances, all of which are in Dutch.
Kartini also wrote some letters. The letters that Kartini wrote contained the condition of women in Indonesia. She wrote about the suffering of Javanese women, such as not being able to freely express their opinions or pursue education. However, RA Kartini fought with all her heart so that Indonesian women who felt oppressed could be equal to men. Currently, RA Kartini's struggle really has a big influence and meaning for Indonesian women. This can be seen from the many accomplished Indonesian women, one of whom even became President of the Republic of Indonesia.
Kartini's full name is Raden Ajeng Kartini Djojo Adhiningrat. She was born on April 21, 1879 in Jepara, Central Java. RA Kartini was born into a Javanese noble family. This is the reason why she received the RA (Raden Ajeng) title which is an abbreviation of Raden Ajeng. However, after marriage, in accordance with Javanese traditional guidance, the abbreviation of the RA title changed to Raden Ayu. As the child of a nobleman, Kartini was able to study at ELS (European Lagere School) for 12 years. She studied a lot there, including Dutch.
In 1903, when Kartini was around 24 years old, she married K.R.M. Adipati Ario Singgih Djojo Adhiningrat who is a nobleman and also a regent in Rembang who has three wives. Even so, R.A Kartini's husband, K.R.M. Adipati Ario Singgih Djojo Adhiningrat understood what his wife wanted. So she was then given the freedom to establish the first women's school. The school stood next to the Rembang Regency government office which is now known as the Pramuka Building.
Exactly in 1912, the Kartini Foundation in Semarang founded a women's school called the Kartini School. The school was founded by the Van Deventer family who were Ethical Politics figures at that time. The construction of these schools then continued in Yogyakarta, Malang, Madiun, Cirebon and various other areas.
RA Kartini's thoughts greatly changed the mindset of Dutch society towards native women at that time. RA Kartini's writings also became an inspiration for Indonesian figures such as W.R Soepratman who later created a song with the title "Ibu Kita Kartini".

Then, thanks to RA Kartini's services, President Soekarno himself at that time issued instructions in the form of Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia on May 2 1964, which decision designated RA Kartini as a National Independence Hero. It was even President Soekarno himself who also set RA Kartini's birthday on April 21 to be celebrated as Kartini Day to this day.
Exactly on April 21st, my son Darren's school celebrated Kartini Day and the kindergarten children were all asked to wear traditional clothes from various regions in Indonesia. Just so you know, Indonesia is an archipelagic country consisting of many tribes and races.
There are many regional tribes and customs in Indonesia, for example Javanese customs (Javanese), Kalimantan customs (Dayak tribe), Balinese customs, Lampung customs, East Nusa Tenggara customs, Batak, Aceh, Padang customs, and many more that are not I can name them one by one. That's why in my country, Indonesia, there is a famous motto, "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika", which means we are all different but we are still one.
We are all very excited about participating in Kartini Day. There is one task for students and parents on Kartini Day: they must wear traditional clothes. I have prepared the traditional clothes that I would wear. I have long been interested in traditional clothing from Kalimantan (Dayak tribe), especially West Kalimantan. Yes, so I decided that during the Kartini Day event, Darren and I would wear traditional clothes from West Kalimantan. I like Dayak traditional clothes because the base of the clothes is black and the images on the clothes are of Kalimantan batik patterns which are typical with a unique ethnicity. The colors and patterns on Kalimantan traditional clothes will look really good and the culture in them is strong.
I will show you what the events are like at school on Kartini Day and the various tribes in Indonesia as well as the beautiful and unique traditional clothes that parents and their children wear. That's very interesting.
In the morning, we attended the flag ceremony. After that there was a group photo session with students from Darren's class. Then continued with a dance and singing performance performed by the playgroup class. After that, there will be a Fashion Show on stage where each parent will demonstrate their clothes on stage together with their children to display the traditional clothes they wear. The final event was the final performance of all school students, namely singing together the school march song, the Pancasila Student song, and several regional art songs.

That's all I think about Kartini Day which we celebrated at school last April 21. We really enjoyed that moment together with family and friends. We are grateful that there is a woman hero like RA Kartini, so that today we, especially Indonesian women, have the same status or gender as men.
