Who is to be blamed when things fall apart? I keep saying it times without number, if I had someone to enlighten and encourage on business I would have so much appreciated him. Would I have thought he was wasting my time? Early days nervousness when seeing friends just pushing for the papers would have been a distraction. Am I against going to school and having papers? Of course not, there is a need to become formal. Nevertheless, I keep on saying, one needs to know the difference between schooling and education. I am a fan of the latter, why spend time acquiring papers that are not generating outcomes as it was promised. What do we want most in life; to be successful and we in the process have to find out the needed path to succeed, it is not about following the crowd.

That said, let's get back to what is happening currently in the Nigerian economy. I have been throwing in several articles to cover different sectors. Middle class economic activities have been the GDP mover of the country. In the part of the country I am staying, small and medium scale enterprises runs the show. You will think that that is all the businesses we have during the day but as the evening sets in more emerges. The process has opened up the economy to atleast give a breeding space for unemployed youths. The more the people, the more the problem, I don't know how you will interpret this but as for me this means one thing; opportunity. Nevertheless, the cash flow has shrinked because of the rigid economy yet skills have been a needed go-to for many graduates.

There is a wide saying mostly by Nigerians youth that school is a scam, I reserve my comments and will be looking at the figures. How many students graduate yearly from tertiary institutions? Research showed 500,0000-700,000. The figures should be higher than that but let's just stick with the feasibles. I have done this analysis once which showed that around 20% get a job in the process. What happens to the remaining 80%; wait? Of course you wouldn't want to make this a choice. Venturing into other means of survival remains inevitable. While many opt into underpayment, applying what you can offer in the street has made lots of profits. As I said, the question of what you can offer to the economy is beating paperwork.

    Skills is substantial

No respect lost but I must say a lot of skill services are beating most of the white collar jobs. Not that I am actually encouraging the government not to create jobs, they should focus and play their part diligently. I mean it can be frustrating when you discover you spent lots of years pursuing a course that never paid off. You must add that not all are that skilled as you expect, meaning they may not be able to meet up in the skills markets. The white collar job market is shrinking worldwide but it seems it is shrinking way faster over here. Unemployment has been a cry for over decades, yet we are always encouraged to head the institution road right from day one.

Just as a said, I had a conversion once with a stranger who was happy he opted for skills acquisition. He said when look at the job market, it has become highly unfavorable. Adding to that, what he said that caught my attention most is how he would not even want to work a collar job at the moment. He made the necessary analysis from daily feeding to transportation, health and miscellaneous; that money wouldn't get him anyway. There is money in the street I always say although my friends always laugh. I do a lot of number analysis at times. This local sellers go home with tangible profits monthly and it seems they have nothing all because you weigh them by how they dress.

    Early skills, early reward

It's one of the things I will always advise Nigerian youths, 'be educationally skilled'. I see this as a leverage against unforeseen circumstances. Many of my friends always wonder how I got the early knowledge of opting into business. To me I even feel I came a little late. I had to spend most of my IT days acquiring skills and learning the Secret of finance,I am still undergoing training. Answering the question of 'what I need in life' is a necessity to me. I could apply for a job if I want to and also push for contracts, of course I am an entrepreneur, you see how the leverage works. We are living in the era of high economic uncertainties, the more diversified you are, the better. The government should put more effort in pushing extra curricular and skill acquisition programs in schools even from primary level.

To conclude, let me add, the skills market is really growing and has become the needed alternative the salvage or atleast cut down the crisis of unemployment. The current economic health of the country has not really allowed cash flow as earlier. Nevertheless, you must consider also that the job market has been slashed in the process. Securing other means of making money either online or offline has become very necessary, many youths are running this direction.
