Mangos y cambio climático
Saludos a todos los miembros de la comunidad.

Esta vez quiero hacer referencia a mi preocupación por las cosechas, tanto del año pasado como este año, que ya se ven algunos mangos maduros por allí, de hecho Diego y Amanda ya comieron mangos la semana pasada, ¡es como raro no! Mango en estos meses.
Lo cierto es que en la casa de mis padres donde viví hasta hace 2 años hay un árbol de esta sabrosa fruta. A pesar de que no cosechamos todos los años, su variedad es exquisita, son los mangos más dulces que he probado, son medianos y rojizos.
Sin embargo, el año pasado muchos de los que se cosecharon tenían una parte negra cerca de la semilla, otros tenían gusanos, algunos tenían partes muy maduras y más oscuras y otros simplemente estaban deliciosos, jejejeje.
Ahora bien, ese es el caso de la casa de mis padres en Carora. En el caso de Cabudare, debo decir que en el año 2022 comí mango hasta decir basta.
En la comunidad hay árboles en casi todos los patios y los vecinos recogen y regalan muchísimos, nosotros salíamos a diario a buscar y tomábamos jugo, hacíamos compota, congelamos muchísimo concentrado, era la fiesta del mango.
Lo extraño, es que el año pasado, el mango brilló por su ausencia, los pocos que nos regalaron tenían las mismas características que los cosechados en casa de mis padres y cuando preguntábamos a los vecinos por la cosecha todos coincidían en su respuesta: pocos mangos, plaga, problemas en el crecimiento y maduración, fuera de temporada.
Mi incertidumbre me ha llevado a investigar al respecto en varias oportunidades, pero no hay un estudio concluyente, una investigación adelantada sobre lo que ocurre en realidad, al menos no he dado con esta.
Mi opinión es que está relacionado con el cambio climático, el aumento de temperatura, la sequía, cambios en las temporadas de lluvia, han modificado el calendario biológico de los árboles y con ello el proceso de maduración de los frutos que se hacen más vulnerables a las plagas, disminuye el dulzor, cambia la textura, el tamaño entre otros.
Este es el caso del mango, desconozco otro, me imagino que debe ocurrir lo mismo con diferentes frutos.
Ahora, si es cierta mi teoría, ¿Cómo será la cosecha de este año? Venimos de atravesar los meses más calurosos de toda la historia de la humanidad y en lo que va de 2024, al menos en Lara, apenas ha lloviznado uno que otro día.
Aun así, estoy esperanzada de que este año sean mejores. Siempre que salgo miro los árboles y unos están floreciendo, otros ya tienen mangos verdes y hace unos días una vecina le regaló a mis niños 2 mangos maduros y sabrosos pero con partes negras.
La naturaleza nos está dando señales de ¡alerta!

Mangos and climate change

This time I want to refer to my concern about the harvests, both last year and this year, that you can already see some ripe mangoes around, in fact Diego and Amanda already ate mangoes last week, it's kind of weird, no! Mango in these months.
The truth is that in my parents' house where I lived until 2 years ago there is a tree of this tasty fruit. Although we don't harvest every year, its variety is exquisite, they are the sweetest mangos I have ever tasted, they are medium and reddish.
However, last year many of the ones that were harvested had a black part near the seed, others had worms, some had very ripe and darker parts and others were simply delicious, hehehehehe.
Now, that is the case of my parents' house in Carora. In the case of Cabudare, I must say that in the year 2022 I ate mangoes till I dropped!
In the community there are trees in almost every yard and the neighbours collect and give lots of them away, we went out every day to look for them and we drank juice, we made compote, we froze a lot of concentrate, it was the mango festival.
The strange thing is that last year, mangoes were conspicuous by their absence, the few that were given to us had the same characteristics as those harvested at my parents' house and when we asked the neighbours about the harvest they all agreed in their answer: few mangoes, plague, problems in growth and ripening, out of season.
My uncertainty has led me to investigate the matter several times, but there is no conclusive study, no advanced research on what actually happens, at least I have not come across this one.
My opinion is that it is related to climate change, the increase in temperature, drought, changes in rainy seasons, have changed the biological calendar of the trees and with it the ripening process of the fruits that become more vulnerable to pests, decreases the sweetness, changes the texture, size and others.
This is the case of mango, I don't know of any other, I imagine that the same thing must happen with different fruits.
Now, if my theory is true, what will this year's harvest be like? We have just gone through the hottest months in the history of mankind and so far in 2024, at least in Lara, it has hardly rained a day or two.
Even so, I am hopeful that this year will be better. Whenever I go out I look at the trees and some are in bloom, others already have green mangoes and a few days ago a neighbour gave my children 2 ripe and tasty mangoes but with black parts.
Nature is giving us warning signs!
What can we do in our daily lives to contribute something positive to our planet?
