The Nobility of the Teaching Profession

From my perspective, I think that the teaching profession is the most noble of all. I am not saying that there is nothing noble about other disciplines, no. Of course, I am aware that other professions, as far as life is concerned, are as indispensable as the teaching profession, but I would say that no profession comes near it in nobility. I am a teacher, but I am not being biased in my submission.

While this profound claim is subjective and can also be refuted, I have numerous reasons that support this claim.

Firstly, of all the disciplines that we have on the earth, it is the teacher who has access to the human mind. I know professionals in other fields, such as psychology, also do, but the teaching profession gives one more authority over the mind than any other. Hence, the human mind is more susceptible, vulnerable, and pliable to a teacher than even a psychologist or a counselor. Indisputably, it is a profession that is capable of controlling the mind that can be said to be the noblest.

Secondly, it is the teaching profession that undertakes the formative years of an individual. During the formative years, a child has no access to knowledge except that which it is provided with by the teacher. That is why I can say that apart from an individual's decision and determination to become whatever they wish to become in life, a teacher, to a very great extent, influences what a person can become in life.

This is the reason why parents should not entrust the raising of their wards into the hands of a teacher that they do not trust because he who has access to one's mind would also have access to an individual's soul. Teachers play a crucial role in providing formative experiences and knowledge that help in shaping a child's perspective, values, and beliefs.

Additionally, the teaching profession offers its practitioners the privilege of serving as parents to children, most especially to children who are deprived of parental affection. That is why, a teacher who can use their charisma to earn admiration from their students ends up being a child's confidant. As a teacher, I have had the privilege of getting to know so much about a child, I mean secrets that even their parents were not aware of.

I do not also need to tell you that every other profession emerges from the teaching profession.

However, despite the nobility of the teaching profession, the teaching profession seems to be the most abused, despised, and underrated profession, particularly in third-world countries where both their governments and private educational administrators despise and maltreat teachers. This has resulted in so many teachers becoming less passionate about their work.
