Its success was so great that shortly after finishing its broadcast during 2024, a continuation was announced with its second season with 25 more episodes for the end of last year and beginning of this year, of which only a few are left to finish. Plot

Luego de los acontecimientos ocurridos en su temporada anterior, nuestro protagonista Sunraku ahora se encuentra realizando una tarea que lo llevará a tener acceso a ciertos trajes que tiene en su posesión luego de haber vencido a uno de los Siete Coloso, Wezermon. Recordemos que este se encuentra en Shangri-La Frontier, el mejor videojuego de realidad virtual completa de este mundo con más de 30 millones de jugadores activos por todo el mundo. Su victoria contra este famoso monstruo, también conocido como “Wethermon el Guardián de la Tumba”, fue gracias a la ayuda de sus amigos y compañeros Arthur Pencilgon y Olikatzo que lograron participar en esta misión especial y conseguir vencerlo con una gran estrategia y mucha experiencia en videojuegos de combates. Normally I don't do more than a single review of an anime, but this case is the first exception of this 2024 having seen so many masterpieces during this great year. Shangri-La Frontier is, without a doubt, one of the anime that has surprised me the most, fulfilling the few expectations I had at the time just knowing that it was a kind of SAO but without fanservice or unnecessary drama. But it's more than that, even my impression with this anime makes me conclude that it's one of the best in the adventure and action genre that I've seen so far. And it is especially in these two genres that I am guided, not only because we are presented with a fantastic virtual world full of incredible landscapes with creatures, characters and kingdoms so well done that you are even surprised that everything is a simple video game. An adventure video game where the action and the skills you have stand out, which puts us in focus a main character very different from what is common in this type of works and that helps us to experience at the highest level everything that one can get to feel or live if we get to play something similar. It is this excellent way of telling a story aimed at an audience specifically dedicated to this world of video games and adventures that makes it a great choice, not to mention the incredible quality they have at the audiovisual level.

Shangri-La Frontier es, sin lugar a dudas, de los animes que más me han sorprendido, cumpliendo con las pocas expectativas que tenía en su momento al solo saber que era una especie de SAO pero sin fanservice ni drama innecesario. Pero es más que eso, incluso mi impresión con este anime me hace concluir desde ya que es de los mejores que existen del género de aventuras y acción que he visto hasta ahora. Y es especialmente en estos dos géneros en los que me guío, no solo porque nos presentan un mundo virtual fantástico y repleto de paisajes increíbles con criaturas, personajes y reinos tan bien hecho que te sorprende incluso que todo sea un simple videojuego. Un videojuego de aventuras donde se destaca la acción y las habilidades que poseas, lo cual nos pone en foco a un personaje principal muy diferente a lo que es común en este tipo de obras y que nos ayuda a experimentar al máximo nivel todo lo que uno puede llegar a sentir o vivir si llegáramos a jugar algo parecido. Es esa forma tan excelente de contarnos una historia dirigida a un público específicamente dedicado a este mundo de videojuegos y aventuras lo que lo hace una gran elección, sin contar la increíble calidad que tienen a nivel audiovisual.

This second season starts right where the first one ended, with our protagonist Sunraku arriving at a special place where they find a kind of monsters that are a bit hard to face. We can already see that, unlike what many people have said about this anime, the story always wants us to stop either to see the protagonist in action -something that is naturally fascinating because of the way he fights- or because of the style of humor and the way he gets into trouble and is always running for his life. And I'm not saying that because he's weak, because as I mentioned in my first review, this character demonstrates very good skills in fighting, defending himself and analyzing his environment and his opponent to such an extent that he always manages to defeat him with his own effort and ingenuity. But in general, this work puts us in focus this character, a fan of trash video games in a virtual world excellently made where he will look for the fastest and most efficient way to level up and get to overcome or complete the game, at the same time he knows more of this place and has fun in incredible combats.
As I mentioned above, Sunraku is the perfect protagonist for this anime, since his experience playing video games and his ability to analyze and solve problems makes us have a perfect plane for those who like the theme of roles in video games or the "leveling" and all that. But in this second season we will not only learn more about this great character, but we will also learn about several secondary characters that have a very interesting development. While the anime always seeks to show us the path on which our protagonist walks as the main point of everything, we can also notice how he relates or develops friendships with several characters that help him fulfill his mission or discover new and special places in this great video game. And not only that, but we also see how the passion for video games and adventures unites them, thus sharing moments and entire chapters that are simply crazy. To give an example, the case of Psyger-0 and Sunraku is one of the relationships that I liked the most, as we see how they join forces and set off together on a series of adventures that neither of them expected. The good thing is that this anime, although it doesn't focus almost on telling us the complete story of each of the characters and all that paraphernalia they always add in anime to give us context of each one, this series focuses more on the moment and little more, showing us only the essential to give time to other more important details for the plot.

Uno de los detalles que he notado en esta serie es la forma en la que parece que le dan continuación directa a toda la historia, sin giros o saltos en el tiempo ni nada parecido. Esta segunda temporada empieza justo donde terminó la primera, con nuestro protagonista Sunraku llegando a un sitio especial donde se encuentran un tipo de monstruos un tanto duros de enfrentar. Desde ya vemos que, a diferencia de lo que mucha gente ha llegado a decir acerca de este anime, la historia siempre busca que nos detengamos ya sea por ver al protagonista en acción -algo que es naturalmente fascinante por la forma en la que este pelea- o por el estilo de humor y la manera en la que este se mete en problemas y siempre se la pasa corriendo por su vida. Y no lo digo por el hecho de que sea débil, ya que como mencioné en mi primera reseña, este personaje demuestra tener muy buenas habilidades para pelear, defenderse y analizar su entorno y su oponente hasta tal punto de siempre conseguir vencerlo con su propio esfuerzo e ingenio. Pero en regla general, esta obra nos pone en foco a este personaje fanático de los videojuegos basura en un mundo virtual excelentemente hecho en donde buscará la forma más rápida y eficiente de subir de nivel y conseguir superar o completar el juego, a su vez que conoce más de este lugar y se divierte en combates increíbles.
Como ya mencioné arriba, Sunraku es el protagonista perfecto para este anime, ya que su experiencia jugando videojuegos y su capacidad de analizar y resolver los problemas nos hace tener un plano perfecto para los que les gusta el tema de los roles en videojuegos o el “levelear” y todo eso. Pero en esta segunda temporada no solo aprenderemos más sobre este gran personaje, sino que también aprenderemos de varios personajes secundarios que tienen un desarrollo muy interesante. Si bien el anime busca siempre mostrarnos el camino en el que anda nuestro protagonista como el punto principal de todo, también podemos notar cómo él se relaciona o desarrolla amistades con varios personajes que lo ayudan a cumplir con su misión o descubrir lugares nuevos y especiales en este grandioso videojuego. Y no solo eso, sino que también vemos cómo la pasión por los videojuegos y las aventuras los une, compartiendo así momentos y capítulos enteros que son simplemente una locura. Para poner un ejemplo, el caso de Psyger-0 y Sunraku es de las relaciones que más me gustaron ya que vemos cómo estos unen fuerzas y parten juntos a una serie de aventuras que ninguno espera. Lo bueno es que este anime, si bien no se centra casi en contarnos la historia completa de cada uno de los personajes y toda esa parafernalia que siempre agregan en los animes para darnos contexto de cada uno, esta serie se centra más en el momento y poco más, mostrándonos solo lo esencial para así darle el tiempo a otros detalles más importantes para la trama.

One of the important things not only in a series of adventures but in a work itself is the way in which they develop and expand their world, and what we have been presented so far about Shangri-La Frontier is, I repeat, impressive. Another detail that I really like is the way in which the protagonist always gets involved in special themes or missions, since his first encounter with Lycaon. Now, in this second season we see how the theme of his body markings and his knowledge of these extra scenarios are of vital importance to the plot itself (especially since his main enemy returns to see him and confront him again).
While there is one thing I really liked about this anime, it's the way it has a way of impressing me. Since since its first season, with its first chapter, I realized that at the time of generating a great impact on the viewer, this work plays very well with plot twists or moments where you literally have no idea what will happen next or how everything will end. And I say this especially in the theme of battles that this anime has, which evidently have not been reduced in this new season far from it. Unlike most action or adventure anime, this one manages to show us a huge and varied repertoire of monsters and opponents of all kinds that, in some cases can become powerful and unpredictable. A case to mention and without giving so many spoilers is that of Lycaon, which this Great Wolf shows to be something more elaborated than a simple monster or "final boss" of this videogame, but it has an intelligence and a personality that is even fascinating. And well, what to say about the very nice humor that this anime has, which I like a lot since they don't need double meaning jokes or awkward moments or any fanservice to try to give laughter. Instead we see a special humor that comes from a unique personality that the main character has of being someone defiant, fun, cheerful and positive.

Vuelvo a mencionar que este anime es perfecto para todo amante o fanático de los videojuegos, ya que lo que vemos de principio a fin es prácticamente la vida diaria de un jugador y aficionado. La manera en la que la historia continúa como si fuera literalmente un juego en el cual por cada misión que el protagonista complete se desbloquea un nuevo lugar o una nueva ciudad para explorar es típico y a la vez fascinante en esta serie. Lo mismo sucede con el mismo lore o historia que tiene el videojuego, mostrándonos poco a poco detalles sobre los famosos “Siete Colosos” o cómo está formado este mundo virtual repleto de criaturas de todo tipo. Una de las cosas importantes no solo en una serie de aventuras sino en una obra en sí es la manera en la que desarrollan y expanden su mundo, y lo que se nos ha presentado hasta ahora sobre Shangri-La Frontier es, repito, impresionante. Otro detalle que me gusta mucho es la forma en la que el protagonista se envuelve siempre en temas o misiones especiales, desde su primer encuentro con Licaón. Ahora, en esta segunda temporada vemos cómo el tema de sus marcas en el cuerpo y sus conocimientos de estos escenarios extras son de vital importancia para la misma trama (sobre todo porque su principal enemigo vuelve a verlo y a enfrentarse de nuevo).
Si bien hay algo que me ha gustado mucho de este anime es la forma que tiene de impresionarme. Ya que desde su primera temporada, con su primer capítulo, me di cuenta de que al momento de generar un gran impacto en el espectador, esta obra juega muy bien con los giros de trama o los momentos en los que literalmente no tienes idea de qué es lo que sucederá después o cómo terminará todo. Y lo digo especialmente en el tema de las batallas que tiene este anime, los cuales evidentemente no se han reducido en esta nueva temporada ni mucho menos. A diferencia de la mayoría de animes de acción o aventura, este consigue mostrarnos un repertorio enorme y muy variado de monstruos y contrincantes de todo tipo que, en algunos casos pueden llegar a ser poderosos e impredecibles. Un caso a mencionar y sin dar tantos spoilers es el de Licaón, el cual este Gran Lobo muestra ser algo más elaborado que un simple monstruo o “jefe final” de este videojuego, sino que posee una inteligencia y una personalidad que es hasta fascinante. Y bueno, qué decir del humor tan agradable que tiene este anime, el cual me gusta mucho ya que no necesitan de chistes de doble sentido o momentos incómodos ni nada de fanservice para intentar dar risa. En cambio vemos un humor especial que parte de una personalidad única que tiene el protagonista de ser alguien desafiante, divertido, alegre y positivo.

This can be evidently noticed in the battle scenes, where we see a well-done demonstration of quality 2D animation with the occasional 3D filler. The use of visual effects, movements, explosions or impacts is most enjoyable to watch. That, along with the excellent work of sound effects that also has the anime, which impacts very well and on one or another occasion makes your ear resonate even (in a good way). But what fascinates me most of all is undoubtedly its soundtrack, being one of the best I've heard in the world of anime. Especially as far as Openings and Endings are concerned, it is an audiovisual marvel. Anyway, this is an anime that I recommend is perfect for any fan of video games, action or adventure.
Personally, I give it a rating of 9.5/10 as far as the adventure, action and comedy genre is concerned.

Por último y no menos importante, hablemos por segunda vez del apartado técnico que tiene este anime. Siendo su animación una de las principales cosas a resaltar que tiene (a diferencia de su protagonista siendo un tipo con una cabeza de pájaro), es evidente que en esta segunda temporada esperemos un nivel de calidad igual al que tuvo en su primera temporada. Y si bien logra mantener dicha calidad, con muy buena fluidez, detalles y diseños de personajes con tonos y paletas de colores moderados y vivos a la vez; podemos decir incluso que mejora un tantito en comparación. Esto se puede notar evidentemente en las escenas de batallas, en las que vemos una demostración bien hecha de calidad en cuanto a animación en 2D con uno que otro relleno en 3D. El uso de los efectos visuales, los movimientos, las explosiones o los impactos es de lo más agradable de ver. Eso, junto con el excelente trabajo de efectos de sonido que también tiene el anime, el cual impacta muy bien y en una que otra ocasión te hace resonar el oído incluso (en un buen sentido). Pero lo que más me fascina de todo es sin duda alguna su banda sonora, siendo de las mejores que he escuchado en el mundo del anime. Sobre todo en cuanto a lo que se refiere a Openings y Endings es una maravilla audiovisual. En fin, este es un anime que recomiendo es perfecto para cualquier fan de los videojuegos, la acción o la aventura.
