Every scrap fabrics becomes very useful in the hands of a fashion designer who chooses to learn pattern drafting. Various aspects of tailoring work exist from Fashion Illustration where creative minds uses pencil and paper to draw up new designs from their imaginations.
Patten drafting takes over from there where we transfer those designs using standard measurements into various outfits using a fabric of our choice.
This is where we need to learn the difference between who is a designer, a seamstress and some basic fashion designing terms.
Seamstresses might just sew clothes but do not learn designing and the art of creating new style.
Another word in the sewing industry is the term called Tailor. These word is used for those who learnt how to sew locally, they also do not design clothes or create new style.
They just learn how to cut and sew some existing style.
Why I’m I taking us through these lectures, it is to show us some of the shortcoming of becoming a tailor with limited knowledge. When you learn how to just stitch clothes and decide not to go further by learning pattern making and designing, one becomes limited and the creativity can not be active in the field. All you do is to copy existing style from other people
A designer has a privileged of creating something new at all times.
Local tailoring is also wasteful of resources and fabrics. Where pattern maker can create something beautiful even from scrap fabrics
Till date I bless the day I decided to learn pattern making.
Today I recycle these fabrics scraps that were already a waste to my tailor friend. After cutting out the style she wants to sew she has picked all the pieces her end throw them in the dustbin.
When a waste is about fabric I don’t hesitate to pick them since I will always find some good use for even the tiniest of fabrics.
With pattern making I was able to draft the outfit i wish to make with the clothes. Using paper work and dart manipulation you can cut clothes in many direction to fit the sizes of the pieces before putting them together afterwards
I did just that I was able to make these scraps useful. Not wanting to sew only the fabrics I had mixed it with a plain back satin I have at home.

I just love the outcome of these pieces that would have been thrown away, what do you think
