NCAA Bowl Season Continues: Grind Time

I'm actually at the point where so many bowl games have been happening lately that I don't quite remember where I left off. I had to go back and look at my post from Friday just to make sure I don't bore you with the same details in a second post.

We are now in the crux of bowl season with a whole bunch of really important games happening this week. I'll get to those in a bit though.

I'll be the first to admit that I didn't really see a path where Navy was going to beat Oklahoma in the Armed Forces bowl. Sure, Oklahoma only had about half the wins that Navy did, but when you compare strength of schedule, the scales were definitely tipped in favor of Oklahoma. I guess I also shouldn't have discounted the momentum the Midshipmen would have after their huge win against Army the week before.

Navy beats Oklahoma 21 to 20, that's my bad.

Meanwhile, Vanderbilt had a pretty amazing game against Georgia Tech winning the Birmingham Bowl 35 to 27. This was a really interesting and sloppy game. I thought sure the whole Georgia Tech team was going to get booted from the field. Especially one player in particular, he should have definitely been ejected. Vanderbilt was running away with it before a lightning delay postponed the game. I checked back later and was surprised to find that Georgia Tech and significantly closed the gap on Vanderbilt. Ultimately the Commodores got the victory.

Arkansas beat Texas Tech in the Liberty Bowl 39 to 26, and (21) Syracuse beat Washington State 52 to 35 in the Holiday Bowl. Over in the Las Vegas Bowl, USC took down Texas A&M 35 to 31, and in the Fenway Bowl UConn beat North Carolina 27 to 14.

The Pinstripe bowl was just a sloppy mess with Nebraska taking on Boston College at Yankees Stadium. It was pretty miserable conditions for the players, but I was happy to watch Nebraska come away with the 20 to 15 win. They are going to be a team to watch out for in the Big Ten for the next three years or so.

TCU beat Louisiana in the New Mexico Bowl 34 to 3, and (18) Iowa State had a very close game against (13) Miami in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. This was actually a really great game to watch. They really went all out with the Pop-Tarts theme and the Cyclones beat the Hurricanes 42 to 41.

@mrsbozz and I had a lot of fun watching the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl sponsored by Gin & Juice. Snoop was in attendance of course and he even got to do some commentating. It was quite funny to listen to him react to the plays and things happening on the field. Miami of Ohio won that game against Colorado State 43 to 17.

In the Military Bowl (not to be confused with the armed forces bowl), East Carolina beat North Carolina State 26 to 21. The Alamo Bowl pitted (17) BYU against (23) Colorado led by "Coach Prime" (Deion Sanders). BYU won that game pretty easily 36 to 14.

Finally, in the Independence Bowl, (22) Army took down Louisiana Tech 27 to 6. To be fair, Army was supposed to face Marshall instead of a team with only five wins on the season, but after Marshall's head coach got canned, pretty much the whole team entered the transfer portal, so Marshall ended up pulling out of the bowl game. That paved the way for the Louisiana Tech team.

There is just one bowl game today with Iowa taking on (19) Missouri in the Music City Bowl. Tomorrow is when things really get exciting. (11) Alabama takes on Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl, Louisville faces Washington in the Sun Bowl, and (15) South Carolina goes head to head with (20) Illinois in the Citrus Bowl. Baylor vs. LSU in the Texas Bowl, and finally (4) Penn State tries to keep their championship hopes alive in the second round of the playoffs against (9) Boise State.

On January 1st, we have (3) Texas against (12) Arizona State, (6) Ohio State vs. (1) Oregon, and (5) Notre Dave vs. (2) Georgia in the remaining playoff games.

January 2nd brings us the Gator Bowl with Duke against (14) Ole Miss, then on January 3rd we have The First Responders Bowl with North Texas vs. Texas State and the Duke's Mayo Bowl with Minnesota vs. Virginia Tech.

Finally, on Jan 4th we have the Bahamas Bowl with Buffalo taking on Liberty.

Are you ready for "more" football?
